Children’s Rights as outlined in the UNCRC (United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child) are fundamental to a good school ethos. Adults in our school will work with children to ensure they are aware of their rights and fully respect the rights of others.

Therefore, the approach within St. Patrick’s Primary School is to build a positive ethos that demonstrates care and respect for all.
Each child is expected to obey the school rules and to attain a good standard of conduct in and outwith the school. Each teacher is responsible for the discipline of his/her own pupils, so that the learning process takes place in a tranquil atmosphere, free from disruption.
The Head Teacher and Senior Leadership Team handle serious breaches of discipline in the classroom or playground. An adult presence is provided in playgrounds at break times in terms of the Schools (Safety and Supervision of Pupils) (Scotland) Regulations, 1990.
Parents will always be fully involved in the event of serious indiscipline, and agreement will be reached with them as to the procedure to be adopted, to ensure a return to good behaviour on the part of the pupil.
Positive behaviour is recognised and celebrated.  Our school operates a system of class charters to set out expected behaviour.  This is celebrated through our house system rewards, Class awards, at Achievement Assemblies and certificates.

Our school rules help children to deal with each other in terms of their relationships.

The rules are formed from 3 positive statements:

• We will respect and take care of one another
• We will respect and take care of our own and other people’s property
• We will continue to make St Patrick’s Primary a happy and safe
