Success Stories

Good afternoon!
I am creating our new Family Learning Wall and I would love to share your family success stories. I know you all have loads….

How has our school changed you? Your family? Your life?

I know some of you have volunteered in school & been involved in activities and events. This has led to you going to college, getting a job, helping your children more at home, meeting new friends or simply gaining more confidence in yourself.

I would love to showcase your special story on our wall. Please send me a blurb of your experiences and achievements.. a photograph would be lovely too, to my email below.

Storytelling Week

Home

Good Afternoon

Next week is National Story Telling week so we will be looking at stories from different cultures old and new. Reading with your child is very important to increase vocabulary and understanding. In the past we have had our parents come into school to read with classes and the children really enjoyed it. Unfortunately we are unable to invite you in but we would be delighted if you could read to our children outdoors.

I’m looking for volunteers to come into our outdoor area to read to groups of children next week. This could be a book of your choice in any language you wish. Please phone the office if you wish to be involved stating the date and time you are available.

Thank you so much for your continued support especially during these difficult times.

Happy New Year!

Good Morning!

I hope everyone had a lovely holiday. Your children seem happy and excited to be back at school.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to our Christmas Fayre. We were very disappointed that we could not invite families however our children had an amazing day and raised a grand total of £706 for school funds.

We also made a start towards fundraising for our ‘Wee Playground’. We are hoping to be able to create a play space for our children to explore, investigate and learn. Our Christmas raffle raised £200 and we aim to raise much more. All fundraising ideas welcome!

Christmas Jumper Day raised over £150 for our children’s charity. The ‘Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity’. We will have another fundraiser this month. Again.. all ideas welcome!

I’m hoping we can start up our family learning workshops again soon. Please comment here or contact me directly with workshops you are interested in.. online or in person.

Thank you, Keep Safe!

Good Morning!

I can’t believe it is nearly the holidays. We have lots of things planned and thank you to our parent council for helping to plan these events. Please keep a note of these so that you don’t miss anything.

  • Christmas Jumper Day in aid of local charities for children

We have decided to make this on Wednesday 15th December for our reindeer visit. Children can wear a Christmas jumper or their own clothes. Please bring a £1 for our charity. We plan to have a Christmas Jumper Recycling Stall on Wednesday 8th December in the hall. Open all day for you to help yourself. Please bring in your old Christmas jumpers that are too small or used ASAP for our stall. Adult jumpers welcome too. Thank you!

  • Christmas Fayre

Friday 17th December @ 9am – 11am followed by the Preview of our Nativity Film. There will be lots of interesting stalls for you to browse, some will be placed outdoors and some in the hall and of course there may be a visit from Santa! The children make their own Christmas crafts and we also need your help with donations please! Here is a list of what you could help with. Cakes & biscuits for our Tea/Coffee stall. Bars of chocolate for our Chocolate Tombola stall. Raffles prizes for our raffle. Hamper donations such as chocolates, tins, toiletries etc. (Organised by parent council). Used toys for PTC toy stall. Parent Council will run a savoury food stall and are looking for donations for that. Samosas will be available but we are looking for someone who could bake Festive Samosas, this might be putting extra festive seasoning in or adding a pastry holly to the top. All creative ideas welcome!

Writing workshops for parents/carers

Last year, our pupils worked with Safina Mazhar, Raisah Ahmed and Yasmin Hanif to create a collection of short stories. We launched the “We Can be Heroes” collection last Friday with great pride!
Now, these amazing writers want to work with our parents on a new collection of stories that draw on South Asian folklore and fairy tales giving them a modern twist to bring them to your children. Safina, Raisah and Yasmin all speak English, Urdu and Punjabi fluently so this is an opportunity for any parents who speak any of those languages to take part.
There are three workshops taking place this week with follow up workshops in three weeks‘ time:
Please email Mrs Brightman directly to book your place as they are limited: gw16brightmanshirleyanne@glow.ea.glasgow.sch.uk
