Tramway artists :)

Earlier this term, some artists from the Tramway came to work with pupils in P6/7 to teach them about all the different jobs in the arts. Dylan and Tylor have been working with this class on the project.

They learned that as well as actors, artists, dancers and musicians, theatres also need designers, cameramen, project managers and visitor guides. To show what they’d learned, they carved designs into foam panels then used them to print onto fabric.

On Friday last week, the class went to see their work on display in the Tramway exhibition. Dylan and Tylor were really proud to see their printing on display. Fantastic work boys! ๐Ÿ™‚

2018 so far….

Apologies for the lack of blog updates so far this year. This does not mean we haven’t been working very hard!

Throughout January and February the children have been working with lots different teachers as Miss Hewitt has been absent a lot after being unwell. Here is a little update on some of the work we have done with Miss Hewitt, Miss Bull, Mr Stewart, Miss Brooks and Mrย Orrย so far this year…….

We have been learning about hibernation and migration –

Our mindmap of ideas about migration right at the start of the topic

We made clay models of hedgehogs and hedgehog biscuits when learning about animals that hibernate

We learned about sea turtle migration and did some research about their migration journey. We made some sea turtles of our own, don’t they look great?

In maths we have been learning about 2D and 3D shape –

Hunting for 2D and 3D shapes outside

We played guess which shape, it was great fun!

Making shape pictures outside

We have been learning about day and night in Science –

The sun shining on planet Kit!

We made models and used these to make short video animations with the I-pad –

Arts celebration display preparations

Class 2 have been learning about the sculpture ‘Left Out’ by Maxwell Rushton and created their own versions of this very interesting and thought provoking sculpture about homelessness. You can find out more about this piece of work hereย  –

Left Out

Our completed sculptures and sculptors! Aren’t they amazing?!

Some of the detail on the models the children made were fantastic! The sculptures of a homeless person sitting on the ground were then covered in black bin bags to complete them.

Please come along to the display tomorrow to hear more about all the fantastic learning we have been doing on this issue.

Assembly, Christmas Fair and our charity raffle :)

Thank you to our parents who came along to our class assembly on Thursday to watch us showcase some of our learning from this term and to those parents who came along and supported the school at the Christmas Fair on Friday.

We all performed amazingly at the class assembly and Mrs Harker has asked our Class 2 and P6/7 Samba band to perform at the Nativity next week, so if you missed our assembly please come along.

We mixed some Harry Potter Style potions on Friday to sell at our Christmas Fair and all took turns working on the stalls.

ย ย

Our charity raffle for the Big Issue raised a fantastic ยฃ57 for The Big Issue to help the homeless over this Christmas period.

Openers, dreidels, production lines and rehearsals!

We have been learning about openers, the words which start a sentence. It is important to use lots of different openers in your writing so it is not boring.

We picked different openers that were on doors and wrote some great sentences!

We learned about the celebration Hanukkah which is celebrate by Jews in December. They celebrate by lighting a special candle called a menorah and eat latkes and foodsย cooked in oil.

As part of our learning about the Jewish celebration Hanukkah we made dreidels. They are wooden spinning tops that Jewish children often play with when celebrating the Festival of Lights, Hanukkah.

After we made our dreidels we played a game with them!

We have also been putting together our Christmas Fairย itemsย for Friday.

Along with all this hard work we have been rehearsing our class assembly performances daily ready for today. Our assembly is sounding fantastic and we hope to see you all there this afternoon cheering us on ๐Ÿ™‚

Busy little elves :)

Class 2 have been very busy over the last couple of weeks preparing for our Class assembly with P6/7 this week, on Thursday, and the Chirstmas Fair, on Friday. We hope to see you at both!

Our class assembly will share lots of the learning we have been doing this term. At the Christmas Fair we will be selling lovely festive things and running a charity raffle.

As part of our work on homelessness we have organised a raffle to raise money for โ€˜The Big Issueโ€™. We are selling raffle tickets for 20p a ticket or ยฃ1 a strip on Friday, so bring some extra money along to support the homeless.

Champions League football and Nike water bottle

Bag of Little Mix Tourย Merchandise

We have also been learning about –

  • more celebrations as part of our topic, such as Hanukkah
  • using different openers in our writing to make our sentences more exciting
  • the days, months and seasons
  • how to tell the time on analogue clocks
  • aiming, throwing and catching skills in P.E

The Big Issue

As part of our work on homelessness and celebrations this term we looked at the magazine ‘The Big Issue‘ which is sold by homeless people. We watched an animation by Shelter that was made by a child who lives at a homeless shelter and thought about how we would feel if we were homeless.

Theย Big Issueย is running a competition to design the front cover of their December issue. We created some fantastically festive pictures and are sending them away today. Fingers crossed for all our fabulous entries….. ๐Ÿ™‚

Have a great weekend ๐Ÿ™‚

Great work from Gopal :)

Gopal has been having a really excellent week that we wanted to share with everyone!

He has been working very hard on his numbers to 5 this term, ordering and recognising the digits and matching them to the correct number of things. He normally works with Mrs Bennett, Mrs Crosbie or Mrs Rooney on this at Mental Maths time but on Tuesday he worked independently on this job and did fantastically! Here he is proudly showing off his work ๐Ÿ™‚

He has also been working very hard on remembering all his sounds and hearing them in words. He used his sound strip with Mrs Rooney to find the correct sounds to spell words with phonemes in them.

Today, Gopal wrote the numbers 1 to 5 by himself for the first time. He finds 2 and 5 tricky and sometimes gets them confused but today he wrote the numbers without having to make any corrections! Great growth mindset Gopal, well done for keeping trying with those tricky numbers!

He has been revising the sound e this week and today wrote all these e letters by himself.

We are all so proud of Gopal and all his independent work this week! He was given the super star lanyard to wear today to celebrate his amazing achievements ๐Ÿ™‚

We learned abut the phrase being ‘on fire’ and how this means doing lots of really great things. Gopal is definitely on fire this week! ๐Ÿ™‚
