Literacy and Interdisciplinary Learning

This week, Primary 6 continued reading The Girl Who Stole an Elephant. Pupils completed written responses in their jotters, developing their comprehension skills and exploring character actions and themes. They also created imaginative pieces, including an adventure story titled The Expedition, and practised descriptive writing to enhance vocabulary and creativity.

Learning focus:

  • Developing reading comprehension

  • Expressing ideas clearly in writing

  • Using descriptive language effectively

  • Exploring future aspirations and challenges

Numeracy

In maths, pupils learned about different types of angles, including complementary  and supplementary angles. They also practised multiplying large numbers, strengthening their confidence with more challenging calculations.

Learning focus:

  • Identifying and measuring angles

  • Understanding  and calculating complementary and supplementary angles

  • Applying strategies for large number multiplication

Health and Wellbeing / P.E.

The class took part in a variety of physical activities, including P.E. sessions and swimming. Pupils practised front crawl, breaststroke and backstroke, while also building water confidence and teamwork skills.

Learning focus:

  • Developing swimming techniques

  • Improving fitness and coordination

  • Building resilience and teamwork

Outdoor Learning

Primary 6 enjoyed our 2nd visit to Pinkston, where they took part in kayaking and woodland activities. Pupils developed their teamwork skills and practised giving and following directions in an outdoor setting.

Learning focus:

  • Building confidence through outdoor challenges

  • Strengthening communication and teamwork

  • Developing navigation and direction skills
