A great week in P5b!

This week we were using the grid method for multiplication. Most of us enjoyed this and liked how we can use it to multiply larger numbers.

As part of IDL, we carried out a floating and sinking experiment. We made predictions and enjoyed checking to see if these would be correct. When we put the orange in, it floated with the peel but when the peel was removed it sank to the bottom!

In gym, we practised our target skills using the tennis balls. We used different tennis techniques to try and hit the balls into the hoops to win points.

For health and well-being, we used drama to role play some scenarios related to good sportsmanship and how to act when someone might not be playing a game correctly.

We hope everyone has a lovely weekend!

Having fun learning in November!

This week in creative enquiry we used glitter to make fireworks and most of us really enjoyed that!

We played some games in P.E and enjoyed them. We played some new ones introduced by our classmates and also played some old favourites.

In Numeracy, we have started a block on multiplication and some of us have enjoyed learning a new strategy: the grid method.  Most of us enjoyed multiplying by 10 and 100, we were shocked at how easy it can be when you use an appropriate strategy.

Most of us have liked using our reading strategies to help us answer questions and find information in our reading books.

Some of us have enjoyed writing our short stories and adding description and details.

It has been another speedy week with a lot of interesting learning. Let’s see what next week will bring. Have a good weekend!

A Spooooky Week in p5b

The highlight for most of us this week was the Halloween Disco! We had so much fun and loved seeing all the costumes.
We played American Handball again and loved it! We could see a big improvement in our skills and supported each other.

We enjoyed it when some parents came in to see our numeracy and the different strategies we have been learning.

All we can think about is our Halloween evening and how many sweets we might get!
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Beatson Santa Dash 2025 – Help Us Reach Our Target

Two years ago, our school community came together to raise funds for the Beatson Cancer Charity. Cancer impacts countless lives in different ways, and the Beatson continues to make an incredible difference through its compassionate care and unwavering support.

The Beatson Cancer Charity works alongside the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre – one of the leading cancer care facilities in the UK – providing vital funding for specialist staff, innovative research, and improved patient wellbeing. From emotional support and complementary therapies to cutting-edge treatments and clinical excellence, the charity ensures that patients and their families receive the best possible care at every stage of their journey.

We are proud to continue supporting the Beatson and the life-changing work they do for so many across Scotland.

This year, some of our amazing staff will be taking part in the Glasgow Santa Dash 2025 with Beatson Cancer Charity on Sunday the 7th December at Glasgow Green. Please help us to raise our fundraising target by donating to our Just Giving fundraising page. Click on the link below to access –

First week of Term 2!

Our first week in Term 2 was a busy one!
In Numeracy, we have been challenging ourselves to learn the Algorithm method. We felt like it was tricky to start with and as the week has went on we are more confident and feel better when using it.

We started learning Tennis skills in P.E. We found it fun and enjoyed developing our skills in lesson one and felt proud of how responsible and ready to learn our class was. During the outdoor learning, we played American Handball and this was a new sport for us. Some of us found it tricky to start with but we still liked it and had fun.

Our first topic this term is all about the Titanic. We used our research skills to find some facts on the iPads and we feel like we have found out a lot already. Some of us are looking forward to finding lots of interesting things out.

We learned all about Diwali and made some Diya lamps using tissue paper. We enjoyed this and took our time to make them as colourful as possible.

Let’s see what next week has in store!
Happy Weekend!

The quickest week yet!

In Primary 5 this week we have felt that it has been very busy and very quick! We cannot believe it is the weekend already.

We are happy that we improved our line-up skills and classroom routines at break time, lunch time and home time.

Everyone is becoming more confident in basketball, some of us are getting closer to making a successful shot.

Some of us enjoyed learning a new maths strategy even though it was a little tricky.

In IDL, we learned lots about the life cycle of a sea turtle. We enjoyed learning about this process but we were sad to find out only 1 in 1000 hatchlings make it to the ocean. There is no perfect time for turtle to hatch! We found it interesting that the weather/heat dictated if the baby turtle was a boy or a girl.

A busy week in P5b

A firm favourite this week was developing our shooting skills in basketball. As a class, we feel like everyone has made a big improvement and have been supporting each other.

In spelling, we felt our spelling test was quite challenging because it was common words. We used our strategies to help us and are proud of what we achieved. During reading, we enjoyed applying reading strategies to identify if statements were true or false. In writing, we enjoyed writing a Diary Entry and watching the video as a ‘hook’. The video was creative and gave us a lot to write about. It made us realise we can use our imagination to play games and transport us to ‘another world’.

Most of us enjoyed partitioning again this week, using challenging numbers and applying this strategy to addition. We felt proud of ourselves that we could try some on our own after working in a group with the teacher.

Some of us really enjoyed French this week.

We went to our committees, we enjoyed discussing what we will be doing throughout the year.

Due to a change in timetable, we now have P.E/Outdoor learning on a Thursday. Therefore, our new P.E. days are Thursday and Friday. Can I also ask for everyone to make sure they bring indoor shoes. Thank you, have a wonderful weekend from P5b and Miss Hamilton.

Our learning this week!

In Numeracy this week, we have been learning how to compare numbers using greater than and less than. It was fun and we learned that the crocodile always eats the bigger number. We also developed our partitioning skills.

We have been exploring different reading strategies through our class novel George’s Marvellous Medicine. We developed our knowledge on using dictionaries and using context clues to find the meaning of unfamiliar words.

We have found different ways to connect our learning, by using the wordbanks in Numeracy to improve our spelling.

In P.E, we worked on our dribbling and passing skills and practised a bounce pass and a chest pass. We started a class challenge to help us develop our shooting skills and we hope to improve our accuracy as the basketball lessons continue.

Our focus for IDL is Oceans. We learned all about the different layers including the sunlight zone and the twilight zone.
