What a fantastic week we’ve had in Primary 4! The children have worked extremely hard across all areas of the Curriculum, and I am so proud of their effort, focus and determination.
We began our new class novel, The 100-Mile-an-Hour Dog by Jeremy Strong, and the excitement was clear from the first chapter. The children used their before, during and after reading strategies to explore Chapters 1 and 2, applying visualisation, summarising skills and higher order thinking to discuss the text in depth. They were then challenged to create a “Wanted” poster, using evidence from the novel to support their ideas, it was wonderful to see such thoughtful use of the text.
We completed our response writing assessments. Every child showed fantastic determination, taking time to add detail, check their work carefully and give their very best effort. This was by far the strongest overall piece of writing the class has produced so far, and I am incredibly impressed with the progress being made.
We also launched our new Rainforest topic. Through a range of creative play experiences in the playroom, the children developed their collaboration, investigation and enquiry skills while building their understanding of this exciting new context for learning.
In numeracy, we have been focusing on fractions of an amount, confidently applying our division strategies to support our calculations. We have also explored the area and perimeter of 2D shapes, with a strong focus on explaining our mathematical thinking clearly.
It has been a busy and successful week, and I couldn’t be prouder of the children’s positive attitudes and hard work. Wishing everyone a restful and enjoyable weekend!
