Enjoy the February break!

Good afternoon,

We are halfway through Term 3! This week we continued with fractions in Numeracy but moved onto a new genre of writing from response – persuasive! For our Scotland topic, we learned about William Wallace and even walked to the Robroyston Wallace Monument where we drew a picture of the monument and discussed what is on it. Lastly, in RME, we began to learn about Ramadan.

Have a great long weekend,

Miss Love

Last week in P4a

Last week in P4a, we moved onto fractions in Numeracy, read Neeps and Tatties by Carey Morning, and wrote a response piece of writing on it with a focus on the Scots language used. We also researched Kelpies in line with our Scotland topic and created beautiful artwork of the Kelpies in Falkirk which will be going home soon! In RME, we learned about the origins of Valentine’s Day and created an acrostic poem using ‘LOVE’.

I hope you all had a lovely weekend,

Miss Love

Week beginning 26th January

Hello everyone,

We started this week off with some Haggis, Neeps, and Tatties tasting to celebrate Burns night and studied Robert Burns poetry, also aligning with our current Scotland topic! We went onto write a response piece of writing on this experience in which the children shared their opinions of the traditional Scottish food. In Numeracy, we continued with the box method to improve our multiplication skills and learning about telling the time in maths.

Last Week in Primary 4a

Happy weekend, everyone!

Last week in Primary 4a, we completed another response piece of writing on the book, Nessie the Loch Ness Monster by Richard Brassey, linking to our Scotland topic. In Numeracy, we began learning how to use the box method to calculate trickier 2-digit by 1-digit multiplication problems and continued to develop our scanning skills in Reading. In RME, we explored World Religion Day and recapped on all of the religions and celebrations we have learned about so far in Primary 4, as well as others we will learn about as the year progresses. Lastly, in Health and Wellbeing, we discussed positive ways to way make new friends.

I hope you are all having a lovely weekend,

Miss Love

Happy New Year!

Hello everyone,

I hope you all had a wonderful time over the holidays and welcome to Term 3! Since returning to Primary 4a, the children have learned about the festival of Lohri in RME, multiplying and dividing by 10 and 100 in Numeracy, time in Maths, and skimming and scanning techniques in Reading! In Writing, we have moved on to the Response genre for which the children have written two full pieces so far in response to a book and a short film. Also, we have focused on the differences between fact and opinion and have applied our learning to talking and listening, reading, and topic tasks. Our first topic of the term is Scotland and the children have learned about the meaning of myths and legends and the Loch Ness Monster so far. Pictured below is our second lesson on Lohri during which the children were building “bonfires” outside using sticks and leaves, as well as a reading lesson.

Thank you for reading,

Miss Love

The first week of December!

Good afternoon, everyone!

December is upon us! Last week, the children wrote a recount piece of writing with an introductory, main, and concluding paragraph about their pantomime trip. Also, we moved onto the arrays strategy to calculate multiplication problems in Numeracy and began learning about the Bethlehem story in RME. In a Talking and Listening activity, the children had to carefully listen to their partner to draw exactly what and where they described on their paper – some are pictured below! We also created Christmas themed lollipops using paper plates, paint, glitter, and skewers which is also pictured below!

Panto Week!

Good afternoon,

What a week we have had in Primary 4a! We continued with Money in Maths and moved onto Multiplication in Numeracy, recounted Alexander Graham Bell’s life and the invention of the telephone in Writing, and completed comprehension and summary tasks in Reading on our reading books. We also learnt about another inventor – John Logie Baird and the invention of the Television which the children completed a fact file about!

This was an especially exciting week because we went to the Christmas Pantomime on Thursday which was a thrilling experience with some children pictured below during that experience!

This week, the children were also given home a project to complete at home by 5th December – a poster about an invention and the inventor they are curious about or cannot live without (you may have noticed them returning home with a big piece of rolled up paper and information sheet)! General questions to consider for their project are:

What is the invention?

Who invented it?

Why did they invent it?

Why is this invention important?

Is this invention used today?

Pictured below are the children during an active Multiplication lesson, showing their grouping skills to calculate multiplication problems.

Week beginning 17th November

Hello everyone,

To recap on last week in Primary 4a, we moved onto Money in Maths, focused on the components of a summary in Reading and summarised a short film, and discussed inventions that we are curious to know more about in Talking and Listening in line with our Inventors topic!  As Primary 4 are the Library Committee, the children collected all of the entrees to the school book cover competition and selected winning candidates for that. Excitingly, we also went on our Library visit Monday afternoon (pictured below) during which the children picked a book to take back to school and read!

Those who still have Snapshot jotters, please return them to school ASAP.

Last Week in P4a

Hello everyone,

It was lovely to properly meet some of you last week at parents’ evening and I’m looking forward to meeting the rest of you this Thursday!

We moved onto a new topic last week – Inventors! The children enjoyed learning about Alexander Graham Bell and the invention of the telephone, as well as choosing an inventor to research themselves on the iPads and trying to match old inventions with modern items. In Writing, we completed a setting description of Bonfire Night with a focus on the 5 senses. In Reading, we have been continuing to find the meaning of unknown words using context clues and the dictionary, as well as becoming more comfortable in identifying adjectives.

Snapshot jotters went home today with a letter – just want to note that some children’s Term 2 work may be mixed in a bit with Term 1 if children filled old blank pages (before the Term 2 targets). So, have a look and if you see any October/November dates, they are from this Term’s snapshot work.

Friendly reminder that the children have Spelling homework to complete in their home jotters and Sumdog homework to complete on a device. Reading books will go home tomorrow.

Have a good week,

Miss Love
