As one of the schools in partnership with BAE Systems, we were invited to take part in a ‘Girls into engineering’ event. The girls completed a practical STEM challenge to ‘Construct a Crane’ and received support support from BAE STEM Ambassadors and Scottish Council and Development Industry staff. The girls had to construct a boat (with a small motor) and a crane out of limited resources (mainly card and tape). The crane had to be able to lift precious cargo (eggs) from the dock, put them onto the boat and transport them down the river. Both teams performed exceptionally well. The S1-3 team of Ellize Bain 3T1, Daisy Campbell 3M1, Sofia McClure 3M1 and Teresa Richter Romera 3T1, were one of the few teams who managed to transport the cargo to its final destination. The S4-S6 team of Laaryib Abdur-Rahman 4T1, Alia Ali 4T1, Pati Alonso 4I1 and Jude Campbell 4M1 were awarded first place. The girls received £200 for the school to use on STEM resources. Well done girls!
