On Friday, Primary 7A visited the Anne Frank exhibit in the St Mungo’s Museum in Glasgow. This was lead by children from a Glasgow high school and fantastic information was explained. The children were walked through a visual timeline of her life and even got to stand in a replica of where she had to hide. There was also fantastic current information spoken about which Primary 7A were able to talk about. After lots of details were given they were set a challenge of finding pieces of information in pairs, it was great fun and very interesting!! #teamwork #worldwarII
Last Wednesday, Primary 7A and Primary 5A took part in the Go Yellow 5K Walk for the Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice which is located in Bellahouston Park. The hospice supports people with life limiting conditions and supports lots of families in Glasgow. We had such a fun day out despite the rain!
The children and parents of Holycross were treated to a performance from Hopscotch Theatre Company about the importance of being cyber “SMART.” Lots of laughs were had and an important message was delivered about online safety.

Better Govanhill Party (BGP) went home today with a rosette with their logo and their slogan on it. They should be proud of themselves! Congratulations again BGP! ❤
The children have been discussing their local community, Govanhill. In their political parties, they have worked together to decide on ways they would like to improve the area for its residents. This week, the children wrote persuasive speeches to present their manifesto.
This morning, they entered their polling station…
First, they registered to vote. The children learned that people must register before they can vote in an election.
One political party at a time, we listened to each manifesto. The main themes that were addressed were health care, education, opportunities for children and transport. As they spoke, a friend in the class used a rubric to assess their speech based on their content and their delivery. Each political party was given a score for their speaking skills.
After hearing five strong arguments, it was time to vote! The children learned that the voting process is private and since we had no booth (like a real polling station!) they lined up outside and one at a time, entered their polling station to vote. They put a cross in one box to elect a leader of Govanhill.
The votes were counted! We had four spoiled ballot papers as some children put a tick instead of a cross. This taught them the importance of following the instruction on the ballot paper to ensure their vote is counted. Please watch our video clip below where Mrs Neil announces the winners of the 2019 Govanhill election….
The Evening Times is up for an award for their Glasgow’s Got Heart campaign which has seen all local authorities commit to all secondary pupils receiving CPR training at an appropriate time – Glasgow were first to sign up in this now national campaign.
It would be appreciated if parents could take a few moments to vote for the campaign found in the link below:
