BBC in Primary 6b!

Primary 6b were joined by crew from the BBC  today to take part in the ‘Winter A-Z Project’. The children created their own videos and used a green screen to display the  backdrop images which they created themselves. This will be shown on the BBC’s website and Twitter page. The children really enjoyed being able to film, direct and present in front of the camera- future stars in the making :-). Keep posted here for the links to the webpage when  they become available. In the meantime have a look at some photos from our practice shoot…

P1c loves Jeely Piece!

Today Primary 1c had their last session with Jeely Piece.  Over the last few weeks we have had a great time learning new playground games, and using lots of different equipment to develop our gross motor skills.

Thank you Jeely Piece – we had a ball!!

It’s hard work, but we can stand on one leg!

Testing our strength…

Who can catch the tigers’ tails?

A good old-fashioned game of tig.

Scream if you love Jeely Piece!!

Kangaroos vs frogs!

I’m the biggest giant in town!

Working with P7 Enterprise

November 30, 2017 by Mrs Lamb | 0 comments

This week for our Art lesson, we created items for the Enterprise Christmas Shop. We created Santa jelly bean cups using red cups, gold buckle stickers, little black belts and some black button stickers. We even decorated them with glitter to give them an extra special touch!

These cups will be available in the Enterprise shop and will help us raise money for our school!

Remembrance Sunday

November 17, 2017 by Mrs Lamb | 0 comments

November is the month of remembrance where we remember and recognise the people who have died in our lives.

This week, we looked at the significance of Remembrance Sunday  and why people wear poppies.

We watched a youtube video from Poppy Scotland Learning about The Great War and how the Poppy first became a symbol of Remembrance.

Many children in our class had stories of giving money to the volunteers or knowing someone who had worn a poppy. Some of them had even worn a poppy themselves!

To remember the people who have fought to keep us safe, we created our own poppy tribute using different medias including crayon, collage and finger-painting.

Here are some of us creating our poppies:

To finish, we cut them out and Miss Ely painted the middle black before putting them up on our door to show all of Holy Cross!  Don’t they look beautiful?

Creating Instruments in Big Noise

November 9, 2017 by Mrs Lamb | 0 comments

Today, P2A started to create their string instruments in preparation for learning how to be in an orchestra. Last week, they chose an string instrument that they would like to learn and the Big Noise Team put them into different groups: Violins, Violas, Cellos and Double Basses.

Using cardboard boxes and sheets, the children worked individually and in teams to create life-sized versions of their instruments.

Next week they will be learning about the different strings in preparation for learning about finger placement and holding a bow!

Miss Ely’s favourite photo from this Big Noise session is of the cello players holding their brand-new cardboard instruments.

The Highway Man by Alfred Noyes and 6C

We have been studying the first 2 verses of a poem by Alfred Noyes.  We decided to write a third verse for this poem.  We wanted to make sure it sounded like a continuation of Alfred Noyes’s work so we used the following success criteria:

  • We can use A,A,B,C,C,B structure
  • We can maintain a rhythm
  • We can use repetition
  • We can apply figurative language

We were very proud of what we produced.  We met all of our success criteria.  Please enjoy Alfred Noyes’s first two verses and then our third verse.

The Highwayman By Alfred Noyes

The wind was a torrent of darkness among the gusty trees.

The moon was a ghostly galleon tossed upon cloudy seas.

The road was a ribbon of moonlight over the purple moor,

And the highwayman came riding—

Riding—riding—

The highwayman came riding, up to the old inn-door.

(Verse 2)

He’d a French cocked-hat on his forehead, a bunch of lace at his chin,

A coat of the claret velvet, and breeches of brown doe-skin.

They fitted with never a wrinkle. His boots were up to the thigh.

And he rode with a jewelled twinkle,

His pistol butts a-twinkle,

His rapier hilt a-twinkle, under the jewelled sky.

Our Verse 3 of the Highwayman

With a crafty smile he swiftly, drew out his dreaded gun.

He shot the lock with a bursting bang, and never a fear to come.

He blew the smoke from his barrel, screams of terror rose.

Within the inn a scanning-

Scanning- scanning-

Eyes of a fearsome shark, a strong and merciless pose.
