Problem Solving Fridays 💭

We are learning to use problem solving strategies to tackle word problems effectively. Today, we worked in groups to solve problems using the strategy ‘ACT IT OUT’. Here is an example of one of the word problems we were faced with today. This is us in action, ‘acting it out’! Can you spot our name labels? We used them to remember who was playing the role of Alison, Jennifer, David, Steven and Peter! 3/4 groups managed to solve the problem ✅👏🏼

Happy Hallowe’en!

We just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone that came along to support the Primary 1 & 2 Hallowe’en parade! It was truly SPOOK-tacular! Also a massive thank you to everyone who provided costumes. Lastly a big thank you to all the staff and pupils involved in planning, rehearsing, decorating and performing. We are all very proud of you!

Here are a few pictures from today’s performance. We hope you agree the children look absolutely BOO-tiful!

Revolting recipe anyone?

The children have been developing their functional writing skills. As today is Halloween, they learned to write instructions for a ‘revolting recipe’. Some children felt proud of their work and want to share it with you at home so have asked for a ‘selfie request’. As promised, I have attached photos of their spook-tacular work ☠️👻💀 Miss O’Neill x

P4c Weekly Blog

This week in science we have been learning about the skeleton. We have been playing games in science labelling most of the bones of our body. While we were learning about the bones we found out some interesting facts: the older we get, the less bones we have; adults have 206 bones; babies have 300 bones; your bones fuse together when you get older.

In PE we have started football training with a football coach. “It was so much fun!” “It was brilliant!” “It was cool!” “It was awesome!” “I had a really really good time!”

We have also been learning about the Vikings this week. We made posters to show the timeline of the Vikings. We put our posters in order from the start to the end. The king threw the Vikings out of England. Vikings spoke another language. We learned that the Vikings attacked different parts of Britain. The Vikings captured York.

In maths this week we had fun maths! We were doing division and multiplication. We made posters out of arts and crafts materials to show questions through strategies. “It was really fantastic.” “It was brilliant!” “It was the best maths ever!” “It was fun!” “I had a really great time.” “I enjoyed it, it was incredible!” “I had a great time with my classmates!”

This week has been fun for P4c! We really enjoyed all of our learning.

Our Primary 2 project management team!

Have you ever asked your child what they do at school only to be told, ‘We played’ or ‘did work’?

If I were to ask Primary 2, right now, what they are doing, they might reply in a similar way- playing, building, making, working. However by the end of their activity they will have designed and planned a construction, worked as a team to build that construction, tested it being mindful of health and safety, fixed any glitches in their design, and developed their original ideas into even more wonderful constructions than even they imagined. That’s before I even mention the leadership, debate and compromise skills they have also exhibited. They might be too tired at the end of the day to tell you all of that and resort to telling you they played but I wanted to show off just how much they have achieved today while working with Mrs McNaught.

P7b’s speeches for Pupil Voice Groups

Last week in P7b  some children prepared fantastic speeches  in order to be considered as representatives for our Pupil Voice Groups. Well Done to all of the boys and girls who were involved and were elected as the new reps for this year!
