P2/1 Coat of Arms 🛡

As part of our social studies topic, P2/1 channeled their creativity to design their very own coat of arms 🛡.

Our P2 children even carried out some research on various medieval coat of arms and their meanings in order to decide which designs they’d like to incorporate 🛡⚔️👑🌹.

Find them on display outside our classroom 👍🏼.

Measurement in Maths 📏

P5a have been learning to measure length and distance using centimetres and metres. We can make a sensible estimate of the length of an object then check our estimation by choosing the most appropriate measuring tool and measuring with accuracy.

Yesterday, we incorporated maths into our P.E. We went outdoors and enjoyed developing our long jump. We worked with a partner- one of us would jump, one of us would measure and record the distance that our friend jumped 😊👏🏼

Safer Internet Day 2019

Our Primary 7’s spent some time today exploring how to use the internet and social media safely and responsibly.  Following some brainstorming, we had some great discussion from all three classes and they showed that they are aware of staying safe and being responsible when using the internet and social media platforms.

News flash!! 👀

P5a have been learning to write a recount in the form of a newspaper report. 📰📝

Taking on the role of a journalist, they are able to recount facts about an event and include relevant details. They are learning to think of attention-grabbing headlines! 😉

Check out some examples of the children’s excellent newspaper reports 👏🏼

Pizza Fractions

P2 loved playing ‘pizza shops’ last week. They used their new found fraction knowledge to make whole, half and quarter flavoured pizzas for their hungry customers.

P1 were able to join in too by counting, adding and subtracting the various toppings onto their pizza bases.

The menus introduced a literacy element to the learning experience and the children enjoyed looking up their favourites and checking out the prices.

Scottish Themed Week – Primary 7A

Primary 7A had a fantastic week last week, learning all things Scottish (as it was Robert Burns Day!)

They found out information about Charles Rennie MacKintosh and designed their own version of his extremely popular art “the rose.” The children also learned the meaning of some Scottish words and made posters to show their understanding. What a great week we had!! Here are some pictures showing their amazing work.

Monthly Newsletter January 2019

Dear Parents and Carers

HAPPY NEW YEAR

I trust that you all had a relaxing holiday and are ready for the new term.

Welcome back to term 3. I hope 2019 brings you health and happiness.

New Staff

I would like to extend a warm welcome to the following new staff members who have joined us.

Ms Kenny, Ms Taylor and Ms Conway have joined our team of staff teaching children who have English as an Additional Language.

Ms Cydzik and Ms McAllister have joined our team of Support for Learning Workers and Ms Mayne has joined our team of Clerical Support Staff.

I trust you will join me in welcoming them to our school.

Attendance

The link between high attendance and high attainment has been well documented. In light of this I monitor attendance on a monthly basis and inform parents in writing if there are concerrns over a child’s attendance. Children will pick up colds and coughs and in these situations it is appropriate that the child remain at home.

School Choir

Congratulations to the school choir for their performances over the Christmas period. They brought festive joy to local residential and day-care centres as well as entertaining the citizens of Glasgow by performing in Glasgow Central Station.

The Choir are going to take a short break from practices as the year groups begin preparations for their annual school show…More information below.

Primary 6/7 School Show

Primary 6 and Primary 7 have started preparing for a performance of Cinderella Rockerfella. The show will take place on Tuesday 26th March at 1.30pm and Wednesday 27th March at 9.30am. Tickets will go on sale nearer the time.

Double Parking Outside the School

Many of you may have seen me at the front of the school deterring parents from double parking at the school entrance. Not only is this dangerous to the children exiting the car, it also causes danger to other children using the crossing patrol, other drivers accessing Calder Street and may hinder emergency services who use Calder Street to access the Glasgow Road Network. I ask you on behalf of the children in Holy Cross Primary to STOP DOUBLE PARKING OUTSIDE THE SCHOOL.
