World Book Day in P5b

P5b had a great day celebrating World Book Day 2019!

We dressed up as characters from some of our favourite books, read an early bedtime story to our buddies from Primary 2 and chose a book to keep at the Holy Cross book swap.

In class, we invented our own sequel or prequel to a favourite story and designed covers for our books, including the title, picture, blurb and reviews. Some of the ideas were fantastic and there may be authors of the future among us!

Here are some of the great costumes and the books they come from…

World Book Day in P1b!

We’ve had so much fun celebrating World Book Day in our class today. Some of us came dressed as our favourite book characters. We had Willy Wonka, beautiful princesses, Catboy and Horrid Henry!

We started the day with the lovely Ms. Kenny coming to visit us. She read us the story of Cinderella with a twist – all the characters were penguins! It gave us lots to talk about.

Then we visited the relaxing reading area where P5C joined us to read some stories. It was really nice to spend time learning from the older children.

After that we went to the school’s Book Swap Shop where we all got to choose our very own story book to take home! We were very excited.

In class we had a speed read competition where children had to find the tricky word ‘the’ as many times as they could in 5 minutes. We also had a secret message competition. The girls who won were happy with their prizes!

It has been a fantastic day celebrating our love of reading, one of our favourite things to do in class.

Play-based Maths in P5 ⚖️🔢

P5a enjoyed learning numeracy and maths through play. The children worked collaboratively to solve practical problems as they explored measurement in maths. They were developing their estimation skills and testing their predictions by reading varying intervals on scales. At the numeracy stations, learners were building on their existing knowledge of the four operations and were able to extend these to meet their individual needs. ➕➖➗✖️

Clocks and time

Primary 3 have been learning to tell the time. Today we worked in groups to practise what we had been learning.

First we made our very own clocks.  Then we worked in groups to challenge each other. We each had a different job to do.

We had a lot of fun and are feeling more confident about telling the time!

Question Time in P7b

Primary 7b have been studying Brexit for the past few weeks with Miss Roy and have been working on their persuasive language skills to create their own debate in the style of the famous TV show Question Time.

The children had lots of fun creating their own questions and arguments as part of the leave/remain campaign.

The children became panel members, the host and members of the audience to create their own Question Time debate.
