Polar Bear Pictures

Look at our beautiful polar bear pictures.  Sameha, Abdul and Ayaan will explain how we made them:

First we put our names on the sheet and painted the background by mixing white, pink and blue.  Then we added salt to make the background look snowy.  Next we painted the ice by mixing blue and white.  We scrunched cling film on the ice so that it would look icy when it dried.

We had to wait for the background to dry and then we got a shape of a polar bear that we wanted and put the shape on the paper.  Then we got our sponges and sponge painted our polar bears.

We had to wait for the groups to finish and the paint to dry.  Then we drew the claws and the eyes.

After they were done, we put them on the wall outside our classroom and everyone liked them.

Polar Bear Facts

polar-text

When asked about the features of a polar bear, here is what our children said:

Aimen:  Polar bears have flat feet to stop them from stepping too deep into the snow.

Rijan:  The polar bear has strong legs to swim and run.

Muhammed:  Polar bears have sharp claws to rip their prey.  The sharp claws also help them to climb and grip into the ice.

Saifan:  The blubber under their fur and skin keeps them walking because it gives them energy.  It also keeps them warm.

Rijan:  The polar bear’s fur makes them camouflage in the snow.

Saifan:  The ears of the polar bear keep cold out and keep warm in because they (the ears) are small.

Norovirus- what you need to know!

Winter Vomiting Bug

No doubt you have heard of the winter vomiting bug, often called norovirus. This is more common in winter months, although you can catch it at any time of the year. It spreads very easily and can affect anyone of any age. If your child displays symptoms of norovirus, NHS advice is to remain at home for 48 hours after symptoms stop. Please take a moment to look at the pictures below which illustrate ways to lower your risk of getting norovirus and what to do in the event that you do get it. If you need more information contact the NHS helpline on 0800 22 44 88 or click here.

Camel Facts

camel-pictures

We made wonderful camel fact posters.  3C know so much about the features of camels and how these features help them to survive in their habitat.  Here is what our children can tell us:

Saifan:  The hump is mostly fat.  Fat gives energy so that the camel can walk for a long time.

Habibah: Camels’ feet are flat so that they don’t sink in the sand.

Wiktor:  The camel’s coat gives it camouflage because it is a sandy colour.

Sameha: Camels have big, thick eyelashes so that sand doesn’t go in their eyes.

Rijan:  Camels have big, thick lips so that they can eat cacti without getting hurt.

Scarlet: Camels have good temperature control .  They can stay out longer in the hot sun without drinking as much water as we do.  They do not sweat very much.

Very soon our clever Primary 3C children will be sharing information about polar bears.
