Primary 3a have transformed themselves into miniature Picassos and Van Goughs, by celebrating Halloween and Bonfire Night and exploring these themes through painting.

Firstly, the class explored the themes of Halloween, and worked magnificently to produce some very cool bat styled paintings, using their fingers and a template to create the silhouette of these night time creatures.

After the success of our Halloween paintings, we decided to celebrate Bonfire Night by recreating the landscape during this time of year. To do so,  we researched the colours, shapes and form of fire works exploding, and noted that these bore an uncanny resemblance to a blooming flower. To create this effect, we used straws taped together and identified the colours of blue, red, yellow and green as the most commonly seen during a firework display. Next, we used these to dab into our paint, and pressed these onto paper to create a skyline. Our next steps involved researching silhouettes and identifying what an urban landscape looks like during a firework display. We then designed our own cityscape and glued this under our skyline. To complete our paintings, we added glitter to create an exploding effect.

The class had so much fun during this time, exploring different ways of painting and creating some truly wonderful landscapes.

Well done Primary 3a, Picasso would be proud!

Our class have worked so hard in all aspects of school life at Holy Cross, and as such, won Class of the Month. Our prize was a trip to Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum in Glasgow’s West End.

The children had the opportunity to learn from the vast array of natural exhibitions, seeing many different animals and species, whilst also exploring some ancient artefacts from human history. Our topic this term is Animal Habitats, and the trip proved to be great experience for the class, where the rainforest exhibition and animal habitats on show helped to build our knowledge and understanding of the natural world.

Well done Primary 3a on achieving such a great accolade, fantastic effort and a very well deserved reward!
