Bellahouston November/December Round Up

A busy 6 weeks at Bellahouston!

We’ve had:

A big new books delivery and display.

A participatory budget session – a group of pupils helped to choose books to further diversify our collection. The book delivery has now arrived. Watch this space. (Many thanks to @wwaterwriters & the Scottish Government School Library Improvement Fund for their support).

Book Week Scotland – we had competitions, a display, a book giveaway and other bookish activities. Well done to the winner of our bookmark design competition, Shanza in S4!

A Christmas/Winter display.

An author visit from Victoria Williamson. Ms Donnelly’s S1 class had so much fun creating their own stories at this creative writing workshop. Again, watch this space.

A P7 transition visit. A group of P7s visited the library and took part in a book tasting activity.

Lots of Newness in Bellahouston

New School Year, New S1s, New Library Layout, New Librarian, New Books!

A huge welcome to our new S1s. S1 inductions are ongoing and our library class visit timetable is up and running. We’ve been super busy at interval and lunchtimes as well.

Check out the new books that have arrived this month, including some amazing books in different languages to add to our growing collection.

Mental Health Awareness Week

Mental Health Awareness Week starts on May 9th, 2022 and we are celebrating it at Bellahouston!

What is Mental Health?

Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices. Mental health is important at every stage of life, from childhood and adolescence through adulthood.

It is LGBT+ History Month at Bellahouston Academy, and to celebrate I have created a small display in the library.

One part focusses on those who fought for LGBT Rights and those who have influenced the world through their music, art and literature.

The other part features some current LGBT authors and fiction books held in the library.

Book Week Scotland at Bella!

Book Week Scotland runs from November 16th to 22nd 2020. This year is obviously going to be a bit different from the norm, but that hasn’t stopped me from doing a poster!  This year’s theme is “Future” so I looked at Science Fiction and possible visions of the future.

I have also created a FlipBook showing some of the Science Fiction books available in the library. The link is below and feel free to have a browse.
