News from St Paul’s

September was a busy month!

Lots of things happening in St Paul’s library this month. We’ve had loads of new books delivered, made new displays and had award winning author, Danielle Jawando visiting.

New books mean new displays. As the nights are drawing in and the season’s change, the leaves begin to change colour and fall – Autumn Means Orange.

Author Visit

On 13th March we were lucky to have the award wining author Danielle Jawando visiting the library. Danielle spoke to a group of senior pupils about her books: When Our Worlds Collided, And the Stars Were Burning Brightly and her most recent book, If My Words Had Wings.

 

 

 

September in Hyndland

New Additions this September!

September has seen a number of new additions to the library. πŸ₯³

New Books!

We have had a few deliveries this month and now have lots of great new titles to choose from. The Friday Finishers created this awesome display incorporating lots of lovely new stock πŸ₯°

There are 2 new D&D clubs up and running in Hyndland. The Tuesday Club have embraced the D20 and started their own campaign. It’s been running for a few weeks now and going well.

On a Thursday after school the seniors are running their own club which is open to all. If you would like to join just come along to the library at 2:45, everyone is welcome. πŸ‘‹

March in St Paul’s

March was an extremely busy month in the library. We had various World Book Day events and two amazing author sessions. Let’s have a look 😊

World Book Day 2024

The library was very busy during the week of World Book Day. We had a book themed Scavenger Hunt, a Big Book Quiz and an Easter basket full of goodies that was raffled off to teachers. All of the events were organised and ran by our Senior Literacy Ambassadors. Congratulations go to them, they did an absolutely fantastic job πŸ₯°

Author Visits

During March the library hosted not one but two fabulous author visits. The first author was Hiba Noor Khan talking about her book ‘Safiyyah’s War’

Our second author visit was from Brian Conaghan talking about his book ‘Treacle Town’. Brian’s visit was part of the Library Young Team Project supported by the Scottish Library Improvement Fund.

Happy New Year and welcome to the first blog post of 2024 πŸ₯³

New Furniture πŸ›‹οΈ

This month the library received some new furniture, kindly donated by Silverburn Shopping Centre. We now have two lovely new seated areas that can be used for private study, quiet reading or small group work.

Our senior Reading Ambassadors have been working with the Rights Respecting Schools group to create a display around the theme of Identity tying in with Holocaust Memorial Day on 27th January.

We have been very busy this December getting the library ready for Christmas. Our Tuesday Library Club members have outdone themselves this year with the library book tree. I think we can all agree it looks tremendous, well done everyone!

New books

We received some exciting new stock this month, a complete collection of Death Note (Manga). Not the most festive, but one of the worlds most popular Manga series!

Reading Schools

Our Reading Schools group has been busy this month making ‘Shelf Shouters’. These are all around the library recommending books to everyone. Keep an eye out for them and give them a try

St Paul’s at Christmas Time

It’s Chriiiiiiiistmaaaaaas!

“Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the library
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse;

T’is the season of giving and currently the library desk is giving serious festive vibes, unlike the display which is giving serious lack of festive stock vibes. However, we have tried, and feel proud about shoehorning in that Christmas cookbook.

Staff Borrow Box

The holidays are fast approaching and what better time to catch up on your reading. In the true spirit of Christmas the Reading Schools team has created this Staff Borrow box. It contains contemporary YA fiction and non-fiction titles for your delectation. The box is situated within the school foyer. To borrow a book, simply fill in the form with your name, title of the book and date of borrowing. Just sign it back in when you are finished. Merry Christmas!!
