Equal Marriage Display

This year is the 10th anniversary of the introduction of equal marriage in Scotland.  And as it is LGBTQ+ History Month we thought we should create a display reflecting this, along with relevant books.

I did this in collaboration with the LGBTQ+ group and the Library Captains.  You can watch a short video of how we put it together here:  https://youtu.be/0bhl64ZpeaQ

The Library Captains supported pupils at our recent Readathon by issuing books to  participants and helping them with the competitions involved.

The Readathon was organised in collaboration with English, Science and Social Studies.  We ran an investigation competition researching questions within these subjects and pupils used a variety of different kinds of books to find the answers.

They also had great fun in our creative writing competition with people coming up with some brilliant and original ideas.

And of course a lot of time was spent simply reading the books they had chosen.

Reading Programme

We have started our reading programme in which S1 and S2 English classes will maintain a reading record when they come to the library. After reading each book they will write a book review to demonstrate that they have engaged with the book and to develop their writing.  The reading records and book reviews are held in files for each class and are available to the class teacher.

There is a spreadsheet for each class, shared with their teacher on OneDrive, which records each pupils general interests, favourite genres, the number of books they have read and book reviews they have written, as well as other information.

Langfaulds Primary 7 visit

The S2 Drumchapel High School Library Captains had their first meeting with the Langfaulds Primary 7 class on Thursday 28th April.  They introduced them to Derek Landy’s Skulduggery Pleasant series and read an extract from the first book.  Before they left they gave every pupil a box set of the first three books, courtesy of Harper Collins.
