Curriculum for Excellence

Curriculum for Excellence has been introduced to raise standards of learning and teaching for all 3 to 18 year olds. It aims to help prepare children and young people with the knowledge and skills they need in a fast changing world. As part of Curriculum for Excellence all children from pre-school to the end of S3 will receive a rounded education known as a Broad General Education (BGE). Curriculum for Excellence is all about bringing real life into the classroom and taking lessons beyond it.

Through the experiences we provide at Balornock Primary School we want our children to become Successful Learners, Confident Individuals, Responsible Citizens and Effective Contributors.

Progress in learning is indicated through curriculum levels as detailed below.

Level Stage
Early The pre-school years and P1 or later
First To the end of P4, but earlier or later for some
Second To the end of P7, but earlier or later for some
Third & Fourth S1-S3, but earlier for some

Keeping you informed

Key general school information will be uploaded to this website. For regular updates on your children’s progress we have the following:

Seesaw

Using Seesaw for out Learning Logs at Dunard helps our learners demonstrate evidence of the learning process (as opposed to just the final product) while giving them the chance to reflect on their learning journey and personal goals (often called meta cognition).

Two QR codes will be sent home for Home Learning and Family Accounts at the start of each session, and upon request.

Digital Learning Logs with Seesaw position statement Aug 25

We use the Parents Portal app to book Parents Nights, which happen twice per year. More information about Parents Portal can be found here.

Report Cards

Towards the end of the school year Report Cards are sent home, providing parents with information on their child’s progress.
