The Languages Faculty within the school provides a wealth of courses designed to meet the needs of our learners. Our provision of a quality learning experience is built on a foundation of respect, attainment and positive relationships.
Our English BGE course has been designed using a thematic approach which binds the learning; enabling learners to progress as they build their knowledge and skills. Over the course of the year, learners will develop their reading, writing, listening and talking skills. We are fully committed to the diversification of our curriculum and pride ourselves on continuing this important journey.
Our S1 Themes
Identity and Experiences, Racism and Freedom, Rights and Comparing Cultures & Texts.
Within these themes, learners will engage with a range of texts including: novels, short stories, poems and film. They will also produce a range of writing that will be aimed at a particular audience.
Our S2 Themes
Decolonialisation, Nature vs. Man, Heroes & Villains and Comparing Texts.
Within these themes, learners will engage with a range of texts including: novels, short stories, poems and film. They will also produce a range of writing that will be aimed at a particular audience.
Our S3 Themes
Decolonisation, Dystopia, Identity and Experiences and Feminism and Rights.
Within these themes, learners will engage with a range of texts. There will also be a focus on the development of skills that will enable learners to succeed in S4.
Senior Phase
In the Senior Phase, we offer qualifications in English, ESOL and Media. These qualifications are awarded by the SQA at level N3, 4, 5, Higher and Advanced Higher (English only).

In additional to the National Qualifications, we also offer learners the opportunity to undertake a Level 6 National Certificate in Literature and Communication.
S3 Media
This introductory study of Media is offered as a pathway for N5 and Higher Media in the Senior Phase. The course is broken down into the 8 Key Aspects of Media: Narrative, Language, Representations, Categories, Audience, Institutions, Society and Role of the Media.
Learners are given the skills to analyse the Media Content studied in class and use these skills to create Media Content of their own.
