Music

Levels: BGE – Advanced Higher

The music course covers 3 main areas of study. These are Performing Skills, Understanding Music and Composing Skills. Through each of these areas, learners build confidence and resilience as they complete tasks as individuals and as part of a group.

BGE

Below is an outline of our assessment approach in BGE. The audio files to example work are also available below.

In S1, pupils complete taster sessions on a variety of instruments such as keyboard, tuned percussion, guitar and ukulele. They then pick the 2 they want to focus on and develop their skills. In S1, pupils will also learn about the instruments of the orchestra and how they are played.

In S2 pupils continue to develop their practical skills on their 2 chosen instruments, while also exploring the work of Robert Burns and developing their Understanding Music skills.

In S3 pupils consolidate their BGE learning, learning about World Music and Scottish Music whilst continuing to develop their Performing skills to a high level.

Senior Phase

N3-AH: At Senior Phase, learners work towards achieving SQA qualifications and experiment with a range of composing techniques.
