Short-term goals of the Antiracism Society:
- Set up a support network to support pupils of colour/pupils who are at risk of facing racism. Extensive research[1] on racism, its impacts on mental health and wellbeing suggests that having a safe space for pupils to process their racialised experiences is crucial to heal and develop resilience. This virtual space can help pupils buffer the future adverse effects of racism, while developing an increased sense of belonging, agency and independence required to flourish.
- Empower every pupil wishing to become better anti-racist allies. This club will foster more compassion for others; honesty about oneself; curiosity to learn about race equality and diversity in Scotland and beyond; and independence in one’s ability to productively challenge racism in the school and the wider community.
- Staff will be using the space to sensibly guide pupils in their quest to promote race equality in the school and the wider community.
Medium/long-term goal for the Anti-Racist Club:
- Develop sustained anti-racist engagement in the school to ensure that every pupil is able to belong, flourish and achieve.
