Another busy week…

Literacy

This week the children were developing their ability to draw a detailed picture to match a short story.  If they wanted to they could ‘have a go’ at copying the sentence too. Lots of detailed pictures and some wonderful letter formation!

Nathim and Poppy were letter detectives and used the magnifying glasses to search for some of their initial sounds in the books.

It’s been another busy week in Primary 1.  We went to the ICT suite for the first time this week.  We were learning to name the different parts of the computer and why it is important to have a password.

The children had to use the mouse to point and click in order to navigate their way around the Cbeebies site.

Outdoor Learning – We’re going on a Bear Hunt

Mrs McVey and the boys and girls enjoyed getting outdoors and re-enacting the famous story ‘We’re going on a Bear Hunt’.  They used different parts of the playground and their imagination to bring the story to life – the sand pit was the mud, the playground was the river, the bamboo was the forest and the bubbles were the snow. Mason was our bear – I’m so glad we found him 🙂 what a wonderful afternoon we had!

Term 2

As we head into a new term we will keep you updated of our learning journey.

This week has been a busy one so far – we celebrated Halloween on Tuesday and we had great fun.  We made spooky crafts, spooky biscuits and had fun at our party.

We had great fun!

Welcome to Primary 1

Welcome to Primary 1

This is the first blog post from Primary 1 this session.  We have been very busy settling into the rules and routines of school that we haven’t uploaded any pictures or posts on to our blog page.

We have selected a few pictures to upload to show our journey through Term 1.

Learning Through Play

The children enjoyed learning to write their names and using mirrors to draw themselves.

Synthetic Phonics

This year we are discussing with the children where the sound is made in our mouth when we learn a new letter and its sound.  We have used jam torches and mirrors to help see where the sound is made in our mouth.

We will post updates of our journey through Primary 1 on our Blog page so keep your eyes peeled 🙂

Please leave some comments for us to read.

Literacy in Primary 1

Term 4 and raring to go….

The boys and girls really enjoy taking their learning outdoors.  We have been learning about ‘connecting words’ at language time and the children are very good at identifying and using ‘and’ and ‘but’ correctly in their sentences.

The children enjoyed running to the correct ‘connecting word’ to complete the sentence.

Generation Science – P3 Bricks and Blocks Workshop

Primary 3 took part in a fantastic learning opportunity provided by Generation Science in conjunction with the Edinburgh International Science festival. The Bricks and Blocks workshop was an interactive workshop where the children had to work as part of a team to create a Lego robot and then program it to move correctly following commands. The children created football goalies and programmed them to move and save goals. This was an excellent workshop and a thoroughly enjoyable and educational experience for the children. Have a look at P3 in action!

Community Spring Fair

It was another very successful Community Spring Fair this year and we would like to thank all staff, parents and helpers who made it such a successful event.  The weather wasn’t as good as it has been in previous years but it didn’t stop everyone turning out to support the event.  Lots of wonderful prizes were won – thanks to the Parent Council for providing the prizes.
