Blairdardie Primary School

Online Safety

At Blairdardie, we want to ensure all our pupils are safe. Using the internet and devices such as iPads and games consoles can be great for learning and having fun but it is important that our pupils are aware of how to keep safe whilst using them.  Here is some information on keeping safe online that you may be interested in reading.

Learning at home

One of the ways we are supporting our learners at home and organising shared learning is through an app called Seesaw. You can find more about Seesaw on our Seesaw section of our website.

Here are some recommendations for parents and families whilst pupils use Seesaw and the internet whilst learning from home

  • It’s best for children to use the internet in an open space at home. This way an adult can keep an eye on them and check they are accessing appropriate content. It also means an adult is nearby if a child comes across anything which is upsetting.
  • Children should always ask an adult for permission before posting photos or videos to the internet, even if its Seesaw. This is good practice for children to learn when they are using other websites and means that they are only sharing appropriate content
  • Children should be fully dressed in appropriate clothing when posting photos and videos on the internet. We wouldn’t recommend that children post videos or photos of themselves in pyjamas or in their bedroom on Seesaw or any other place on the internet.
  • Please make sure that only children who have permission are included in photos and videos on Seesaw. Other siblings or friends who have not signed a school media permission form and shouldn’t be included on Seesaw.
  • Children should ask permission before they share their private information online, such as their full name, date of birth, email address or their home address. This includes posting videos and photos which reveal where they live.

The National Online Safety organisation have made two useful guides which may be useful to families.
