What is a math mindset?
Similar to a growth mindset, where people believe that their most basic abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work, a maths Mindset focuses on these classroom norms which develop mathematical thinking, reasoning and resilience.
- Everyone can learn math to the highest levels
- Mistakes are valuable
- Questions are really important
- Math is about creativity and making sense
- Math is all about connections and communicating
- Math Class is about learning not performing
- Depth is more important than speed.
At Blairdardie we want to encourage all our children to recognise the value in learning from mistakes, understand connections between different areas of math rather than remember math facts quickly, and have a math mindset which allows them to believe that they can achieve within maths.
