P4 & the Festivals of Light

We have been learning about how different religions celebrate and think about light.

We explored the Hindu story of Rama & Sita, how everyone lay lamps and candles to show them the way home.

We made these amazing clay divas that Hindus light during Diwali to remind them of this story. Hindus also get dressed up, have fireworks and paint henna patterns on their hands:

We also looked at the Christian festival of Advent.

The 4 week countdown to Christmas is not just about chocolate calendars.

Each Sunday, Christians light a candle in the Christmas wreath. The 4 candles stand for Hope, Peace, Love and Joy. The 5th one means it’s Christmas day.

We made a wreath out of hands and wrote our hopes for Xmas on them.

Next week we’re going to learn about the Jewish festival of light Hanukkah. Can’t wait!
