At Ashpark, school we are very fortunate to have our very own Nurture Room which children know as the Orchard Room. Here we support children in small groups, particularly in the transition from pre-five to primary school. The central aims of Nurture Groups are to provide children with an environment that facilitates their emotional, social and cognitive development.
The key principals are:
1. Children and young people’s learning is understood developmentally
2. The classroom/playroom offers a safe base.
3. The importance of nurture for the development of self-esteem
4. Language is a vital means of communication
5. All behaviour is communication
6. The importance of transition in children and young people’s lives.
