Expressive Arts

Art and Design, Music, Drama and Dance play an important part in your child’s education and pupils are taught to develop creative skills in all four areas. They get the opportunity to put these skills into practice during assemblies and at appropriate times of the year many classes are involved in . Our aim is to enable our children to enhance their creative talent and develop a range of techniques and materials are introduced to create collaborative and individual pieces of work. Children’s art work is displayed throughout the school buildings.

Music
In school we use Music Express as well as other music resources to support to support the teaching of music. P1 and P2 pupils receive singing instruction from the Youth Music Initiative. Our children are given many opportunities to perform at assemblies and other productions.

Drama
The Glasgow Guidelines and a variety of supplementary resources are used to plan this area. By expressing themselves using role-play situations, masks, puppets or dressing-up boxes, the children
gain confidence and develop the skills required to perform.

Dance
Dance contributes to children’s physical education and physical activity. It enhances their technical skills but also allows the use of the imagination to create and choreograph dances. Pupils will have the opportunity to participate in dance activities during the time allocated for P.E. There are also dance opportunities within our after school zest programme which is available for Primary 1 to primary 7.
