End of Term 3

Hello everyone! Welcome to the start of Term 4.

I’m going to take this opportunity to reflect on such a wonderful Term 3 and allow us to look back on pictures and remember all the fantastic learning we have completed.

In numeracy, we have been exploring many different aspects including fractions, decimals and percentages. We have been learning to convert between the 3, find fractions of quantities, use decimals to multiply and divide and relating these to real life situations.
We also explored algebra and were able to solve some simple equations.

Through Literacy, we have continued looking at a variety of texts – both fiction and non-fiction. We have been able to talk about these texts and look for specific features within them. Moreover, we have also been participating in talking and listening activities including different types of debates – some with Mrs Armstrong. We were able to share our opinions and chat with others about the topic. Within the debates, we have been learning a variety of skills to use including asking effective questions, using language of debate and justifying our point of view.
We also completed a piece of writing from one of our talking and listening debates on uniform. We spoke about the for and against arguments on this topic and used this in our writing piece.

In Primary 6/7 this term we were also very lucky to start working with Katie who introduced the WoWW targets to us. We started working towards our 3 targets as a class and have been reviewing and reflecting on these to move up the scale. We spoke about what a 10 on each target would look like and how we can get there.

During our time in P.E, we worked with Duncan to take part in Badminton and learned lots of skills. We spoke about efficient ways to move round the court, we practised using the lines on the court. Also, we were able to use different grips on the racket to serve and rally with an opponent. Furthermore, from finishing our 6 weeks with the Playmakers, we have put our skills into practice and have been working closely with Primary 1. We have introduced them to a variety of games and have worked in groups to decide on the best equipment to use for each game.

For our topic this Term we looked at the evolution of education and researched each stage from Mining to future education. We then transferred our knowledge from this research into creating animations using digital technology inspired by a Ted Talk. Within our topic we were also able to look at the gender impact on girls in school and compare this to our current education.

Finally, to conclude, we have been so lucky to have the opportunity to work with Mr Corrigan outdoors this Term and have used lots of tools working within groups to create fairy doors and also have been using maps to navigate through orienteering.

It’s been a fun filled and very packed Term and I’m excited for what Term 4 holds.

End of Term 2!

Hello everyone,

What a fabulous term it has been, I cannot believe that Term 2 is coming to an end. At the end of this post I’m going to share some pictures to look back at to remember a happy, fun and positive term 2.

Term 2 started very well as we won the Football Tournament and got lots of House Points, a trophy and medals in return!

In Maths, we have been learning about Money – understanding how to solve word problems using the 4 operations, adding and subtracting money to find the total and using this to calculate the correct change, calculating whether a profit or loss has been made and by how much, understanding what a budget is and learning about different ways of paying for items such as the use of credit and debit cards and the benefits and risks to using these.

Throughout Literacy this term, we have been learning to create a character of our own and have been planning this based on their appearance, personality, likes and dislikes, their environment and also their actions and speech. We put our characters into a story of our own and were remembering to use adjectives, adverbs, a variety of openers, conjunctions and punctuation. By using lots of adjectives, it gives the reader a detailed image of what they’ll look like and makes it much more interesting to read.

Learning about money proved to be extremely useful during our class trip to the Christmas Markets at St. Enoch’s last week. We had a great time eating churros, drinking hot chocolate and travelling via the Subway.

As well as going to the Christmas Markets, we also took a trip to the Kelvingrove Art Gallery Museum where we learned lots about endangered wildlife learning about the Albatros,  the Leatherback Turtle and Polar Bears. We identified many animals which are now going extinct and had the opportunity to view animals which can be found in Scotland. We split into 4 groups spent some time learning about some endangered animals.

In Science, we had a great opportunity to work with a few student Science teachers who are originally from Oman. They worked with some of us in Arabic and were teaching us about renewable  and non-renewable energy. We got to participate in many practical experiments some of which involved making a circuit using electrical wires, batteries and crocodile clips.

We have also been so lucky to work with Mr McCormack in Term 2 where we have been learning all about Podcasting. P6/7 have been learning how to set up a PA system using the required equipment and technical language needed for success. We have also been learning how to use the Tascam to record files and save them using this device. More recently, we’ve been learning about Foley Sound Effect Artists and have been experimenting with creating sounds from junk to re create real life sounds as backing tracks to videos. What a success it has been – Mr McCormack and I are so proud of you all and how well you have picked up such technical language, well done!

In addition, throughout Term 2 we have been lucky to have been given the opportunity to visit the Reindeer which came to the school – we got to pet them and spend some time with them and were able to ask questions too.

I am so excited for Term 3 and looking forward to lots more fun learning and hopefully some more exciting class trips! I hope you all have a wonderful and relaxing holiday, take this time to switch off from school and enjoy spending time with your family and friends.

See you in the new year!

Miss Quinn

Christmas Markets!

Hello everyone,

I am uploading some of the pictures from today onto here for you all to look at.

It was a fantastic day and I am so proud of how well you all behaved from walking to the subway station, getting on the subway safely and walking sensibly round the markets whilst respecting members of the public – well done P6/7!

Also thank you to those of you who shared some of your churros with me – they were delicious!
