SCIAF- ‘Together we can make people strong.’

SCIAF are the Scottish Catholic International Aid Fund.  They have been part of the Bishop’s Conference in Scotland since 1965.  Together with our help SCIAF support families in poor countries to grow enough food to eat, to get an education and to recover when disaster strikes.

SCIAF and our partner the Sudan Evangelical Mission (SEM) have been working hard and continue to work hard to remove barriers to education for children and young people with disabilities, including breaking down stigmas within the community and the classroom.  SCIAR’s projects are always about working with people to help themselves.  To help people recognise that they have the ability to succeed with a little help.

This year we raised money through the Wee Box Appeal.  We managed to raise £185.  We were delighted with that.  SCIAF will receive £370 as the UK government match the funding.  Many thanks to all who supported this event.

Mary’s Meals

Mary’s Meals provides one good meal to some of the world’s poorest children every school day.

The charity is names after Mary, the mother of Jesus, who brought up her own children in poverty.  Mary’s Meals reaches out to people of all faiths and of none.

A P3 pupil, Jackson Taylor, inspired us all by raising £200 for Mary’s Meals.  He completed a 40 mile walk during Lent.  As a school, we are continuing to raise money for this worthy cause.

Poppy Scotland

Poppy Scotland provide support for current and former members of the Armed Forces as well as their families.  This support, in recognition of their sacrifices and service, is holistic and bespoke.  Our collection raised £85.15.  Many thanks to all who bought a poppy.

  Save The Children

This Charity works alongside children in more than 100 countries, including the UK.  Together, with Save the Children members around the world they have three big goals.

The shared ambition is that by 2030 :

  • No child dies from preventable causes before their fifth birthday.
  •  All children learn from a quality basic education.
  • Violence against children is no longer tolerated.

They tackle big problems and know every child is different, and every one of them has something special.

In support of this charity our Christmas Jumper Day event raised £210.60.  Many thanks to all involved.

Kirkcaldy Food Bank

Kirkcaldy Foodbank has attracted great interest and real encouragement  from a wide cross-section of our community, ranging from churches and faith groups, voluntary and statutory welfare organisations, local businesses, politicians and many concerned individuals.

Last December we had a collection for the Foodbank and donated a large number of items in order to support local families.  Thanks to all who contributed items.
