TRANSITION TO NURSERY
We all know the familiar feelings when contemplating change. Anticipation, excitement and curiosity may well be tempered with anxiety, uncertainty, fear and a sense of bewilderment as we are faced with unfamiliar experiences, people, places or events. At Westfield Family Nurture Centre we want the transition to be a positive experience and we strive for it to be as seamless and natural as possible for all children and families. What to expect:
- Contact prior to child starting – an opportunity for Parent/Carer to share information about the child and also ask questions about the nursery life.
- Digital communication with information about staff and nursery life.
- Nursery settle visit with the parent/carer. This is flexible and more can be added to meet each child’s individual need.
- Particularly in the early entrants, transitions into nursery may take weeks rather than days, depending on the individual child, who is always placed at the centre.
- When a child starts nursery their attendance time is decided in discussion with parents/carers.
- When a child starts nursery they will be assigned a keyworker from the staff team that will be the main point of contact for the family.
- “Settle in chat” will happen with keyworker when the child has been attending for 6-8 weeks.
