Our Curriculum

CURRICULUM

Curriculum for Excellence is a national framework which is providing our children with learning experiences and opportunities to prepare them for learning, life and work in a changing world.

Children learn actively in eight different curricular areas following a
curriculum designed by each school to reflect their particular needs and circumstances.

All schools follow the same principles in designing the curriculum, aimed at ensuring that children have the experiences and opportunities to become –

Successful Learners
Confident Individuals
Effective Contributors
Responsible Citizens

Literacy, numeracy and health and wellbeing are addressed throughout the curriculum and children’s wider achievements are fully recognised and celebrated, reflecting the value given
to wider learning and children’s experiences out of school.

Children are fully consulted throughout their learning and in decisions about what they learn and how they learn it. There are opportunities throughout the school year for parents to receive information and be consulted upon the curriculum children are following, particularly in relation to more sensitive aspects of learning.

Further information about the curriculum can be found at Parentzone
http://www.educationscotland.gov.uk/parentzone a national resource developed by Education Scotland on behalf of the Scottish Government.

St Agatha’s RC Primary is a school where the active participation of pupils is encouraged.  Pupils are offered the opportunity to become contributors and leaders of school improvement with pupil voice and empowerment a key feature.  As pupils develop their sense of responsible citizenship they are supported by staff to fully participate in the life of the school.

As part of our curriculum, pupils learn about our community, Fife, Scotland and it’s place in the world.  At the centre of our curriculum we have Religious Education (Roman Catholic), the Rights of the Child, a strong focus on STEM, in addition to Literacy, Numeracy, Health and Wellbeing.  Outdoor Learning is an integral part of our Curriculum and experiences are tracked through our Natural Connection’s programme.  All pupils participate in PRAXIS, that develops skills from P1-P7 and our P6 and P7 pupils take part in the Pope Francis Faith Award.  Skills for Life Learning and the World of World are developed and made explicit in learning and teaching.

Houses

All pupils are in a house and each house has responsibility for an aspect of school improvement and charity work.

St Nicholas – Improving Our Relationships

St Francis of Assisi – Improving Our Community

St Patrick – Improving Our Health and Wellbeing

St Andrew – Improving Our Successes and Achievements

Pupil Leadership Groups

In addition to the work of the houses, we have the following groups running in our school and enhancing the curriculum;

Pupil Learning Council – Improving Our Learning and Teaching

Eco – Commitment to Eco School and gaining/maintaining Green Flag status.

Pupil Council – Pupil voice and leadership at all levels.
