Welcome!
This blog site contains general information about St Agatha’s RC
Primary School. I hope you will find this information helpful. You will see from our “Charter for Catholic Schools” that, in developing as a community of faith and learning, we strive to provide the highest quality of education alongside the promotion of Gospel values.
We believe that a close partnership between home and school is vital, so that your child can be happy and work towards goals. We count on parents’ support in this respect. If you are undecided as to which school your child should attend, and would like first to see round the school, please write, telephone or call into school to arrange a visit.
Charter for Catholic Schools
The mission of the Catholic school is to develop as a community of faith and learning, providing the highest quality of education, and offering formation through the promotion of Gospel values, through celebration and worship, and through service to the common good.
All Catholic schools in Scotland, in honouring Jesus Christ as the
Way, the Truth and the Life, will feature the following characteristics:
- a commitment to the integrated education and formation of the whole person, in close partnership with parents as the first educators of their children;
- an inclusive ethos which aims to honour the life, dignity and voice of each person, made in the image of God;
- a commitment to the search for wisdom in life and to pursuit of excellence, through the development of each person’s unique
God-given talents; - a commitment to the spiritual formation of the school community, through the shared experience of prayer and liturgy, and in partnership with local parishes;
- the provision of religious education programmes which will enable young people to develop their understanding of Gospel values and of how to apply them to life; a commitment to uphold the moral teaching, faith tradition and sacramental life of the Catholic Church;
- a commitment to communicate Catholic social teaching and thereby to promote social justice and opportunity for all;
- a commitment to ecumenical action and the unity of Christians;
- the promotion of respect for different beliefs and cultures and for
inter-faith dialogue; - a commitment to support the continuing professional and spiritual development of staff.
All staff appointed to a Catholic school are expected to support and promote the aims, mission, values and ethos of the school, as illustrated in this Charter.
SCHOOL ETHOS
We work closely with members of St Agatha’s Parish and Fr Paul Lee, our school chaplain, to provide a strong, triangulated support of home, school and parish for pupils as they make their faith journey with us. We are proud to be a Catholic Primary School.
We also have an increasing portfolio of partnerships with members of local community groups e.g. Family Support Service, Women’s Aid, DAPL, Gingerbread, University of St Andrews, Fife College, Rotary of Leven, to broaden the horizons and deepen or enrich our learning and teaching opportunities.
St Agatha’s Primary School is a community of faith and learning where we strive to ensure our pupils are happy, confident and build independence while they grow and develop skills for life, learning and work.
Our values are:
Respect for others
Resilience as a learner
Good Morals and Manners
Our Community
St Agatha’s RC Primary School is located in Leven but its catchment area extends from East Wemyss to Lower Largo on the coast and also includes Methil, Windygates and Kennoway.
The school moved from Methil to its present site in 1974 and was officially opened by Cardinal Gordon Gray on 9 February 1975.
The school building provides nine pleasant well-maintained classrooms grouped around three central activity areas and two nursery rooms.
The large hall is utilised for dining, PE, drama, school performances, assemblies and masses. The building is surrounded by extensive grounds, consisting of grassed and paved areas. Within the grounds is a fenced garden, which is maintained by pupils, staff and parents.
Pupils and adults who have mobility difficulties can access all of the ground floor of the school, including toilets, via the front school entrance. Although St Agatha’s is a Catholic School, the effect of parental choice has considerably increased the roll.
St Agatha’s is a member of the St Andrew’s High School Cluster enjoying strong transition from Primary to Secondary. We also enjoy strong, positive links with other Levenmouth schools and the new Levenmouth Academy.
Our Parent Council continues to support the parents, children and school as a whole. Parents and carers are very supportive of the school and, in addition to parents and other volunteer adults who help in the school, there is a very active Friends of St Agatha’s group, who meet regularly to organise fundraising and social events.
