   Technology at Rosslyn

Sensory room

We are lucky at Rosslyn to have a calm and relaxing Sensory Room. Our Sensory Room has a range of different lights, sensory items, music and a magic Carpet. The different options allow us to adapt the room to suit each individual’s needs.

Magic Carpet

Magic Carpet is an award-winning interactive projection system that displays motion responsive games and activities on to the floor.  Magic Carpet caters for a wide range of needs with applications designed for early stimulation, exploration and engagement. From simple coloured effects to realistic fish ponds, quizzes and games,

The Magic Carpet will respond to the slightest body movement causing an immediate response to a learners movements. It also allows for collaboration and play between our learners and staff.

Eye Gaze

Eye tracking is a technology that is used to see where a person is looking on a computer screen. It can also be used to control a computer with your eyes instead of using a traditional keyboard and mouse, enabling individuals with physical and cognitive disabilities to live richer and more independent lives. Learners will use the Eye Gaze in line with their current targets. Eye Gaze is a fun way to help develop skills and understanding in cause and effect, communication, turn taking,  attention and choice making.

Go Talk/AAC Device

An AAC device can be used in a variety of ways to aid communication. This can include making choices or sharing what happened in the school day.   More information can be found in our ‘Communication Methods’ section.

IPad

Each room in the school has an IPad for the class to use. We have a range of Apps for our learners to use from simple cause and effect activities to developing understanding of number.

Switches

Switches can help learners start to access a computer, play independently, communicate and access a wide range of educational opportunities. We use a range of different switches, in a variety of positions to meet the needs of our leaners. Switches can be activated by touch by hand, foot or head and used to make something start and stop, make choices and communicate messages. These are used throughout our day in a range of different activities.

Smart Platform

We have  Smart Platform at Rosslyn which allows our learners to move and control their wheelchairs via switches.  The platform is a motivating tool for exploring the school environment and for  facilitating play and learning.

The controls and switches used can be adjusted for the individual learner, allowing for appropriate control and progression. The platform is fitted with sensors which ensures the chair follows a line on our school floor, making the platform accessible and safe for all that use it.
