Friday 22nd November

Today, some of the class are attending an Athletics event in Glenrothes, competing against other schools in Fife.

We are continuing preparations for our Make £5 Grow events, which start next Friday. We have shared our ideas to the whole school during Monday’s Together Time, after we used their feedback to help us finalise our price and products. We have been calculating our estimated profit and looking to maximise this where possible.

In Literacy, we have been focusing on developing our spelling and punctuation skills. We have also researched a topic of our choice, as we conclude our learning on writing reports. We have worked hard at improving our note taking skills.

In Numeracy, all groups are learning about fractions and percentages, and applying to real life contexts.

In P.E, we have continued to work on fitness and stamina. We have started learning about handball and have played in matches..

In Art, we have been focusing on line and colour.

With Miss Allan, we explored different Gospel accounts in RME.

We created school timetables in French to help develop our skills further. We also learned about different features in a table, including merge and splitting cells and keyboard shortcuts.

 

Thursday 14th November

This week we have been working in well in our Enterprise groups as we seek to make £5 grow. Our ideas are developing well and we have begun the marketing stage. We have also been calculating our budget on our shopping list. Next week, we will share our ideas to the whole school assembly.

We have been exploring respect as part of anti-bullying week and created acrostic poems to show what respect looks and sounds like to us.

In Numeracy, we have begun working on fractions, decimals and percentages.

We created blackout poems based on Remembrance Day. This is when you select significant words from a poem and black out the rest to create your own. One of the poems we used was Flanders Fields.

We have continued to develop our stamina skills in P.E and also played matches in our football lesson.

In French, we are becoming more confident with school subjects and enjoyed using Blooket to test our knowledge.

We have been learning how to deal with an emergency situation and gave CPR to the Anne Dummies. We realised how hard and tiring this is but an important life skill.

Friday 8th November

This week, we have worked well in our groups to develop our ideas to make £5 grow. We prepared market research questions to ask other classes and we have used this feedback to help us improve our plans. Next week, we will begin marketing and designing.

We have developed our skills further in information report writing and have peer assessed each other’s work to help us improve further.
We have been answering questions on information texts to help develop our skimming and scanning skills.

In drama, we have acted out what might happen if we find a million pounds, like the characters in our class novels. We are focusing on developing realistic characters, thinking about voice and movement.

We enjoyed creating a market stall in loose parts and in outdoor learning we worked well with our buddies to be creative with the natural materials.

In Numeracy, we have been further developing our skills in money, including problem solving.

We have been leaning about school subjects in French and we explored solids, liquids, and gases further in science.

In P.E, we are developing our fitness skills and looking to improve our stamina.

Friday 1st November

This week, we have begun working in our Make £5 Grow teams. We have established rules for our teams, we have identified personal skills and the roles best suited to each member of the team and we have begun to generate our ideas. We will look to carry our market research before we finalise and make our decision.

In Numeracy, we have continued to learn about money, including budgeting, profit and loss, hire purchase, commission and overtime. We enjoyed working in pairs to work out a family shopping budget.

In Literacy, we have been developing our spelling skills. We have also been working on our note-taking from information texts. We have used these notes to make information reports of our own. We peer assessed each other’s work and used this to help set new targets for our work.

In HWB, we have explored resilience and how to cope with different challenges we may face. In P.E, we have carried out fitness stations as we look to improve our stamina and we have also developed our football skills.

In French, we have been consolidating our learning in days, months and seasons and enjoyed using ‘Blooket’ (online game) to test our knowledge.

We have continued to develop our ukulele skills, including a new chord.

In Art, we have been learning about perspective in our work and creating Halloween inspired images.

We enjoyed working with our buddies to create a spooky spell and we collected items from our playground to help make it.

In Science, we have begun exploring properties of solids, liquids and gases.

We have been experimenting with different roles in Drama, developing movement and voice.

Friday 25th October 2024

We have had a busy first week back!

Our new topic is based on Enterprise and Fairtrade. We have received £5 each from Virgin Money and we will work in groups to try to make this money grow. Next week, we will start to generate our ideas and develop our businesses.

We have started our new class novel, Millions by Frank Cottrell-Boyce. We are looking forward to hearing what the characters do with a million pounds in 17 days!

In Numeracy, we are learning about Money and this has included thinking about budgeting, wages/salaries and calculations involving money.

In Literacy, we are developing our reading for information skills and skimming and scanning. We have been taking notes from Information texts and we have used these to create our own report, thinking about the layout and structure.

We enjoyed attending the DCA film festival on Thursday and we had lots of good discussion about the themes in the film, including respect and celebrating diversity and differences.

We have taken part in an art competition to promote the upcoming Christmas Cheer event in Newport.

We have also been developing our skills in ukulele and are becoming more confident in switching between chords.

This week, we have all attended our the Skills Academy of our choice – including STEM, Gymnastics, Origami, Board Games and Outdoor games. We have enjoyed developing our skills and working with others from across the school.

Friday 4th October 2024

We can’t quite believe it is the end of term and what a busy term it has been!

Today, we thought about what our highlights from the term have been and what our next steps are.

We also concluded our class novel, Kensuke’s Kingdom, and shared our thoughts in a review. We have now all completed our 500 word stories and these have been submitted to the BBC. We have also entered another competition, a poetry writing challenge on National Poetry Day. We have the chance to have our poems published in a book.

In Numeracy, we have finished our learning from the term and have consolidated our learning in whole and decimal numbers and the 4 operations.

This week, pairs have presented their findings on a natural disaster of their choice and have made links to climate change. We have given feedback to each pair and thought about our next steps when presenting to an audience.

In P.E, we have concluded our learning in ball skills and team games by playing a cricket and basketball tournament.

In French, we have been developing our skills in the months, days, seasons and numbers.

We enjoyed outdoor learning with our buddies and carrying out an autumn scavenger hunt.

Across the school, we all met in our committees for the final time this term and reviewed the progress made so far.

Friday 27th September 2024

This week, we have been working in a pair to research one natural disaster. We had the choice of droughts, wildfires or floods and we have been investigating their link to climate change as part of Climate Action Week. We will present our findings to our class mates next week.

We have started our entries for the BBC 500 Word challenge and there have been lots of interesting ideas on display. We will review and edit next week before we submit our entries. We have also been writing Imagery Poetry that we will share at our Harvest Service.

In Numeracy, we have been developing our problem solving skills and playing Numeracy games as part of Maths Week Scotland. We have also been working on our calculations involving decimals and some have been exploring significant figures.

In Art, we have been creating our Christmas card designs, ready to be sent to the publishers. We have been focusing on line and shape in our designs.

We have been developing our skills in Ukulele and changing chords.

In P.E, we have been continuing to improve our skills in working with others in team sports, including Cricket and Basketball.

We enjoyed exploring our natural environment with our buddies and creating habitats for small creatures that live there, as part of our outdoor learning.

In French, we have been writing about ourselves, and revising numbers.

We had our second round of Committees today and we are developing our leadership skills.

Friday 20th September

It has been lovely to see lots of the sun this week and we have enjoyed learning outdoors with our buddies. We helped to tidy up our planters ready to be planted again. We enjoyed reading with our buddies too.

We have developed our skills in cricket this week and have worked well with others, thinking about our tactics in teams.

In our writing this week, we have researched inspirational figures and have written detailed information about their lives and why they inspire us, focusing on the challenges they have faced in their lives.

We have been learning more about metaphors and similes and created our own poetry based on the sea filled with figurative language.

In Numeracy, we have continued to develop our skills in working with whole numbers, including BODMAS.

We have worked in groups to create earthquake proof structures and have tested them to see if they survive a table top earthquake. This has helped develop our skills in working with others and in problem solving. We have also created leaflets to share safety tips to help before, during and after an earthquake.

In Drama, we have worked with well with others to share our ideas and presented unscripted drama based on our class novel.

Today, we met with our Committees for the first time and started to put our plans into action as leaders of learning.

Friday 13th September

 

We have been developing our spelling and comprehension skills in literacy and using our learning about similes and metaphors to write poems about the sea. In our personal writing this week, we have been writing about our greatest achievements, focusing on using our senses to describe.

In our Maths and Numeracy learning, we have been working together to look at different statements linked to probability and aim to prove them correct or incorrect. We have continued to work with whole numbers in our calculations, using the 4 operations.

We have continued to enjoy our class novel Kensuke’s Kingdom and we used this as a stimulus in drama again this week.

We have been exploring earthquakes in our natural disaster topic and have carried out some research and developed our note-taking skills. We have worked with others to design an earthquake proof building using different materials.  We created images of the Burj Khalifa in our artwork as an example of a building that has been designed to withstand an earthquake.

We have looked at the characteristics of a successful learner and worked together to rank the characteristics in order of importance.

In P.E, we have continued to develop our basketball skills.

In French, we are developing our skills in presenting and writing information about ourselves.

We have continued to create and learn more about electrical circuits in Science.

Friday 6th September

This week, we found out who our P7 House Captains are. Congratulations to all who were selected and well done to all who put themselves forward for the vote.

We have been exploring the idea behind positive talk we can use to help us promote a growth mindset and over come any challenges we may face.

In P.E, we have continued to develop our skills in basketball and in team games, thinking about our strategies.

In Literacy, we have been developing our understanding of the difference between similes and metaphors. We have written interesting pieces of writing about ‘Our Happy Place’, focusing on the use of description, including our senses.

We are continuing to enjoy our class novel and have considered  the thoughts of the main character, Michael, after he is washed up on an island. We used these ideas in our Drama work too. In our topic work, we have looked at the impact and causes of volcanic eruptions and tsunamis.

We enjoyed exploring the playground with our buddies and identifying different leaves their trees.

In Numeracy, we have been developing our skills in calculations involving whole numbers. We have been using trial and error in our problem solving.

We enjoyed playing ukulele again this week and have consolidated some learning from the past and it is new for others.

In French, we have been developing skills in reading, writing and talking about ourselves in French.

We have been creating electrical circuits in Science.
