Primary 6

What a fantastic week of learning we’ve had in P6! The classroom has been full of energy, teamwork and creativity. Here’s a look at what we’ve been up to:

Numeracy – Place Value & Rounding

This week, we explored place value in numbers up to 7 digits through games, hands-on challenges and written work. We practised identifying the value of digits in large numbers and our rounding skills — we experienced rounding to the nearest 10, 100, 1,000, 100,000, and even up to the nearest million!

Literacy – Diary Writing & Peer Assessment

In Literacy, we stepped into the shoes of a character from our class novel ‘Divided City’ and wrote diary entries from their perspective. We did an excellent job thinking about what our character may have seen and how they might have felt, spoken and reacted through internal monologue. After drafting, we peer-assessed each other’s writing using 3 Tickled Pinks (things we loved) and 2 Greens for Growth (areas to improve). We then used this feedback to type up our final diary entries.

Exploring Glasgow – Our Class Novel Setting

To connect with the setting of our class novel, we used Google Earth to explore the city of Glasgow. We identified at least three key landmarks, did some note-taking and compared different parts of the city- recording any similarities and differences. This activity sparked great discussion and curiosity! Next week, we will use iPads to create a guided digital tour with voiceovers, sharing our thoughts and findings.

Art – Geometric Football Designs

In Art, we linked geometry to creativity by focusing on shapes like pentagons and hexagons. We used these to design realistic footballs, practising line work to do this accurately- they look great!

P.E. – Teamwork & Skill Building

This term, we’re focusing on football and netball. This week, we practised essential skills such as dribbling and worked on team-building games to build cooperation and communication. We are already showing great progress and teamwork!

Our Class Charter – Fruits of Uniqueness

To celebrate the individuality of every one of us, we each chose a different fruit to represent ourselves and created a “Fruits of Uniqueness” display. Each fruit is a symbol of who we are and what we bring to the classroom. We also discussed positive class slogans to reflect our values and how we treat one another. Some great examples include “In our bowl, we all belong- working together makes us strong.” And “Bananas, berries, grapes and more- together we open more learning doors”.

It’s been a week packed with exploration, expression and enthusiasm. We can’t wait to see what next week brings!

Primary 6

In Primary 6, we made PowerPoint presentations with information all about ourselves. At the end, we shared them with partners during a paired talk. We knew what to include based on Miss Cook’s presentation and we created our success criteria together so that we had shared goals and knew how to get there.

We also made visuals to show how we wanted our classroom to be and feel. We drew 5 pictures to match our chosen ideas that we felt were important to us. We included that we wanted to feel Happy, Creative, Valued and we also involved all of the SHANARRI Indicators.

We learned about United Nation’s Convention’s rights of the child, we picked rights that we wanted to be central in our Classroom and make a priority in our Class Charter. All of us had picked Article 24, which focuses on our overall health and the safety of our environments. After voting in our groups and sharing back, we have chosen Article’s 27, 24, 19 and 12 to feature in our Class Charter.

Lastly, we all enjoyed a well-deserved brain break in-between creating our self-portraits on Thursday afternoon. We did a dance that we have named ‘the crab dance’. It was lots of fun, we even had a whole class conga!
