This week in P6 we have been busy learning lots of new things! In maths, we have been rounding numbers and adding and subtracting decimals. We worked hard to practise these skills and are becoming more confident each day.

In topic work, we have been learning about the Highlands of Scotland and exploring its amazing landscape. We used what we learned to help us write a creative piece about being lost in the Highlands. We focused on giving detailed setting descriptions to help the reader imagine the scenery.

We also played our first game of tag team rugby this week. Everyone tried their best and had lots of fun working as a team.

We really enjoyed sharing our Scots learning with you. We worked hard to learn dances, Burns poems and facts about Robert Burns. We also had great fun making shortbread for you to enjoy!

This week in P6 has been a very busy and exciting one!

In literacy, we have been redrafting our mythical stories using Book Creator. We worked hard to improve our writing by adding more detail, checking punctuation and improving our vocabulary. We are very proud of the fantastic stories we have created!

In art, we have been creating our own artwork inspired by the Yellow Castle in Newport-on-Tay for the Rio Art Competition. We showed great creativity and took time to carefully design and colour our pieces.

In numeracy, we have begun learning about decimals. We have been focusing on how to read decimals, especially when looking at measurements. We have been practising using number lines and real-life examples to help our understanding.

We also enjoyed doing some real-life maths, where we budgeted and calculated different Nando’s orders using real menu prices. This helped us practice adding money, working within a budget and finding change in a fun and practical way.

In health and wellbeing, we have been talking about our worries and learning different strategies to help us cope, such as breathing techniques, talking to someone we trust and positive thinking.

We have also been busy preparing for our Scots Shared Learning. We have been practising reciting our poems, learning dances and creating presentations about Robert Burns. We are really looking forward to sharing our learning with you!

Another fantastic week of hard work!

This week in Primary 6, we have been very busy with lots of exciting learning.

In numeracy, we have been learning to read the eight compass points and to understand the size of the angles between them. We practised using directions and learned how angles change as you move around the compass.

In literacy, we have been retelling fairy-tale stories with a Scottish twist. We used Scots words and spellings to make our stories more authentic and fun to read.

We also developed our digital skills on our iPads. We learned how to use Freeform and created a spider web all about ourselves, adding stickers, different text styles and images. We then learned how to use Adobe to design our New Year’s resolutions.

In art, we were learning how to turn Scottish food and drink into eye-catching product designs. We were inspired by Scottish artist Gillian Kyle and famous Scottish brands such as Irn-Bru, Mackie’s crisps, Tunnock’s Tea Cakes and Grant’s Haggis.

We enjoyed our first rugby session of the year, where we learned how to do proper rugby passes and catches.

In our topic work, we have been learning about changing Scottish landscapes, focusing on the Ice Age in Scotland. We carried out our own research and created a text on Freeform our iPads to display what we learned.

This week in Primary 6, we have been busy learning lots of new and exciting things across the curriculum.

In maths, we have been learning all about angles. We learned the names and types of angles, how to measure them accurately, and how to draw angles using a protractor. To finish our learning, we created a fantastic piece of angle art, showing how maths can be creative too.

In P.E., we began Scottish country dancing. So far, we have learned the Virginia Reel and The Flying Scotsman. Everyone worked hard to remember the steps and work as part of a team.

In art, we were inspired by the work of Charles Rennie Mackintosh. We created beautiful stained-glass roses using watercolour paint, focusing on colour and pattern.

As part of our Scottish learning, we started practising Robert Burns poems. We were able to choose from four poems: My Hoggie, Red, Red Rose, To a Mouse, and My Heart’s in the Highlands. We are working hard on expression and confidence when reciting our poems.

In writing, we wrote about a place in Scotland that matters to us. We used descriptive language, as well as metaphors and similes, to create detailed and engaging descriptions.

Well done, P6, for another brilliant week of learning!

This week in Primary 6, we focused on being Confident Individuals, and it was wonderful to see this shine through in so many ways.

We began the week by performing our individual class talks on World War II. Each pupil spoke clearly and confidently, sharing their learning with pride and showing real courage when presenting to the class. Well done, Primary 6!

As part of our Christmas church service, we shared our cooperative World War I Christmas Truce diary entry. This was a special moment, as pupils worked together to create a thoughtful piece of writing and confidently presented it to the wider school community. We thoroughly enjoyed attending the service and joining in with the Christmas carols, which helped us get into the festive spirit.

In art, we created clay melted snowman candle holders, carefully shaping and designing our models. We also explored the element of line to create cosy hot chocolate mug drawings using oil pastels, producing some lovely winter artwork.

Festive fun continued with our Christmas sing-along, where we enjoyed singing the school’s Top 5 songs together. We also relaxed and enjoyed watching The Grinch as part of a whole-school treat.

To finish the week on a high, we took part in the Santa Dash around the school, spreading lots of Christmas cheer and enthusiasm.

It has been a busy, creative and confidence-building week for Primary 6. Well done to everyone for their hard work and positive attitudes!

P6 Weekly Blog – 12/12/25

This week in P6 has been busy, exciting, and full of learning!

In maths, we have been working on finding fractions of a quantity and exploring volume. We enjoyed using different strategies to solve problems and challenge ourselves.

In our World War topics, we learnt about the Christmas Truce in WW1 and wrote a diary entry from the point of view of a soldier on that extraordinary day. We also continued to create and perform our WW2 individual presentations. The class chose fantastic topics, including air raid shelters, how Christmas was celebrated during the war, and Anne Frank. Everyone has worked really hard and presented confidently.

We also had our Christmas party this week! We played lots of fun games, danced, and had a brilliant time celebrating together.

One of the most exciting moments of the week was receiving our new iPads. We can’t wait to explore all the amazing learning opportunities they will bring in the new year.

Another fantastic week in P6, well done, everyone! Let’s keep up the great work.

4/12/25

This week in P6 has been packed with learning, creativity, and festive fun!

We continued our World War II topic by writing our very own A–Z WW2 poems, challenging ourselves to think of meaningful vocabulary for every letter of the alphabet. We also began researching for our WW2 presentations, finding out important facts to help us become mini-historians!

In numeracy, we were busy converting fractions to decimals and exploring perimeter, where we drew festive snowmen, Santas, and nutcrackers to measure. We also learned about area and created colourful area art to show our understanding.

Our final week of P.E. circuits was a great workout, and we also started our new role as Junior Leaders, organising fun playground games for the younger classes.

In science, we learned about states of matter, carrying out activities to help us understand solids, liquids, and gases.

To finish the week, we had Festive Friday, where we made beautiful origami angel decorations to go into our community gift bags.

Another amazing week in P6!

We’ve had another busy and exciting week in P6!

This week we were learning how to add and convert improper fractions. Everyone worked hard to understand how mixed numbers and improper fractions link together, and we’re becoming much more confident with our strategies.

In our WWII learning, we explored propaganda and discussed why it was used during the war. After analysing real examples, we designed and created our own propaganda posters using persuasive slogans and bold imagery.

We also studied how different artists depicted WWII. We looked at mood, message, and artistic techniques, and then used these ideas to inspire our very own artwork. The creativity and thoughtfulness shown were fantastic!

In Literacy, we wrote a balanced argument answering the question: Should aliens visit Earth? Pupils worked on giving points for both sides before reaching their own conclusion.

We continued our PE fitness circuits and many of us feel like we’ve already become fitter and stronger. Great effort, everyone!

Our Christmas frieze went up this week! We learned how to create a stained-glass effect using line elements and paint. The final scene shows Baby Jesus in the manger, and it looks beautiful on our display wall.

This week has been another busy and exciting one in Primary 6!

In Social Studies, we continued learning about rationing during World War II. We explored what families were allowed to buy each week and even created our own wartime weekly meal plans for a family of three. We also had a go at making a genuine wartime recipe, carrot cookies! The class enjoyed discovering how people used creativity to stretch limited ingredients.

In Maths, we worked on adding fractions and changing improper fractions into mixed numbers. We also looked at measurement, learning how to record lengths using decimals and fractions, and understanding when each is most useful.

Our final rugby session of the year took place this week, and everyone had a fantastic time building their teamwork and ball-handling skills.

In Literacy, we wrote persuasive texts on two big questions: Should there be age limits for social media? and Is gaming educational? The pupils produced thoughtful arguments and strong reasoning to support their opinions.

A great week of learning and creativity. Well done, P6!

It’s been another busy and exciting week in Primary 6!

In our World War II topic, we’ve been learning all about The Blitz. We explored what life was like during the bombings and wrote some very moving evacuee letters, imagining what it would feel like to leave home and family behind. To go alongside our writing, we created striking Blitz silhouette artwork using oil pastels, which we proudly shared with our parents during our class learning showcase.

In Maths, we’ve been comparing standard units of length and getting hands-on with measuring activities. We also had great fun making equivalent fraction pizzas to help us visualise fractions in a creative (and tasty!) way.

This week also saw the start of our Junior Leaders programme! Everyone has been learning how to plan, organise, and manage games for younger classes. It’s been fantastic to see teamwork, leadership, and problem-solving skills in action as we prepare to run our own playground activities.

Well done, Primary 6,  what a fantastic week of learning and leadership!
