This week, we have been exploring what a growth mindset looks like and why it is important to challenge your brain. We considered what we can now that we didn’t used to be able to do, because we have pushed ourselves to try new challenges.

In our topic of Scotland’s Landscape, we have been exploring Scotland’s major rivers and focused on The River Tay. We worked in pairs to carry out research and complete a fact file. We also completed a map of Scotland’s rivers.

We are continuing to enjoy our class novel (Kensuke’s Kingdom) and we used this for our inspiration in loose parts play.

In Numeracy, we have been developing our skills in place value.

We have been working on recount writing and we wrote about a day we would never forget, focusing on describing using our senses.

Mr Foggo continued his drumming lessons this week and we are all enjoying learning to keep a steady beat.

In Art, we developed our skills in using watercolour paint and created images of the River Tay.

We explored some of our school environment in outdoor learning and identified some of the trees we have in our playground.

This week we have been exploring Scotland’s cities as part of our topic learning and we worked in pairs to research and create interesting presentations. We tried to persuade others that the city we had chosen was the best one to visit! We developed lots of ICT skills, as well as finding out more about Scotland.

We have enjoyed creating pieces of artwork that represent the things that make us unique. These will be displayed in our school hall next week.

In Numeracy, we have been developing our skills in rounding numbers to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000.

We have continued to use our islands that we created last week in our learning this week. In loose parts, we worked together to create a part of our island. In Drama, we were learning to create freeze frames of different parts of our island adventures and in writing, we wrote letters home from our islands. We focused on using detailed descriptions of the island using our senses.

In outdoor learning, we were exploring our outdoor environment and we completed a scavenger hunt in small groups.

We developed our skills in keeping a steady beat in music and we enjoyed starting our drumming lessons with Mr. Foggo.

In P.E, we have been enjoying basketball and developing our passing, dribbling and movement skills. We have also explored the Wellbeing Indicators as part of our Establishment Phase in school. We also worked in pairs to record what a good learner looks like.

It has been lovely to be back together in school and we are getting used to the new routines of being in the Huts.

We have worked together to create a Class Charter based on our rights. We decorated hand prints to go with our Charter.

We have written letters to share some of our holiday highlights and our hopes for this new school year. We also created postcards of our favourite holiday moment.

Our topic is Scotland and exploring the geography of our country. We have started to think about what we know and have mapped the main cities using atlases to help.

We enjoyed playing team games in P.E and developing our communication skills.

We have also completed a group learning task, where we we stranded on an island. We had to think of the basic needs to survive and the rules we would need to live by.

Our class novel is Kensuke’s Kingdom, by Michael Morpurgo and we have enjoyed the start and thinking about the feelings of the main character.
