Friday 19th December

On Thursday we attended the Church with the whole school to sing lots of Christmas songs and hear the Christmas story.

 

In class we have been busy making Christmas decorations and calendars ready for the New Year. We are looking forward to bringing them home.

 

We have completed our work on Money and Decimals and have completed an assessment to show our understanding of the topic. We have also been working on our 6 and 7 times tables since we are such fans of these numbers!

 

We have written Christmas themed Haiku poems and we have been developing our use of commas and descriptive language.

 

We watched and reviewed the John Lewis Christmas advert and explored the message behind it.

 

In Science, we have been exploring the uses of batteries and how they are made and we have further developed our skills in creating and drawing circuits.

 

Today, we enjoyed a Christmas sing a long in the hall with the whole school and we competed in groups to complete a Christmas quiz.

 

It has been a very busy term and we hope everyone relaxes and has a lovely Christmas and New Year when it comes.

 

Friday 12th December

It is beginning to feel a lot like Christmas in school! It was our Christmas party this week and we all had lots of fun playing games and dancing. Lots of us enjoyed Christmas lunch too. We enjoyed watching the P1 Nativity on Friday. We also made Christmas cards to take home at the end of term. In our artwork, we designed snow globes with a snowman inside.

We wrote Winter Cinquain poems this week and learned about the criteria required, including nouns, verbs and adjectives. We have also been developing our skills in using commas. Also in Writing, we wrote a review/response to give our thoughts on pointillism as an art style.

We have been sharing our individual presentations on how we can make a difference and what makes us unique, also who inspires us. We have peer-assessed and given feedback on how we can improve.

In our Numeracy work, we have been learning about budgeting with our money and calculations to work out the best buy. We enjoyed Christmas shopping but didn’t enjoy having to stick to a budget!

In our topic work, we have been learning about people who have challenged discrimination and we created an information poster about Rosa Parks who challenged racism.

We have been learning about famous figures in RME and explored the Buddha.

We have been developing our skills in handball in P.E and our team working skills.

In Loose Parts, we completed a team challenge called ‘The Ground is Lava’! Lots of fun and great cooperation skills on show.

Friday 5th December

Today has been a busy day, with it being our first Festive Friday! Today we made Christmas cards for our community bags using a mosaic technique. We also attended our committees and wished farewell and best wishes to our janitor, Rory.

In drama, we explored the theme of bullying through a poem and we considered the feelings of different characters in a school playground.

We have been learning about different types of discrimination in our topic and learned more about xenophobia. We explored this topic through our class novel, The Boy at the Back of the Class. We discussed how to be upstanders rather than bystanders.

We have continued to develop note-taking skills and we chose our own topics to write an information report about.

In Numeracy, we have been developing or skills in multiplication and division linked to money. We also learned about cross sections of shapes in Maths.

We have been learning the skills needed for Handball in P.E and have worked well in teams.

In French, we have been using colours to describe food items.

 

Friday 28th November

Today we had a visit from our local MP, Wendy Chamberlain. This was to celebrate UK Parliament week. We asked lots of good questions and shared our ideas for making a difference with her. We created our own political parties this week and we each took on a role as part of these parties. We had to agree what our main issue was and how we planned to achieve this. We presented our ideas to the class and then we carried out a vote as part of a mini election.

 

On Monday, we shared our learning from our assembly, and it was great to see everyone contribute lots of great learning confidently. We shared presentations, poems, artwork and songs.

 

Also, this week we have been continuing to develop our information report writing skills. We took notes beforehand and have been using our skimming and scanning techniques to do this.

 

In Numeracy, we have been applying our skills to adding decimal numbers within the context of money. We have been using our mental maths skills to calculate change.

 

In Art, we have created beautiful paintings of Winter robins. These will go on display in our school hall for everyone to see.

 

We have developed our fitness skills further in P.E in circuits and we have been recording our scores to see if we can set targets to improve.

 

Today, we met in our pupil committees again for the second time this term. We are working hard to achieve our set goals.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Friday 21st November

On Monday we had a visit from MSP for NE Fife, Willie Rennie. He discussed his role in the local area and we asked him lots of questions, including housing issues in Newport to climate change.

This week we have been preparing for our class assembly. We will share our learning from our Diversity topic. We have been learning about stereotypes in our topic in relation to gender and had lots of good discussions around this. We created pointillism pieces of art for our topic and words linked to diversity.

We have continued to develop our skills in writing information reports and taking notes from a range of texts in preparation for our writing. We are developing skills in skimming and scanning of a text.

In Numeracy, we have been learning how to read numbers on a decimal scale to 3 decimal places. We have also been learning to add and subtract decimal numbers. We have been continuing to work on visualisation skills in problem solving with nets of a cube. We are showing good perseverance skills.

We have enjoyed our last rugby session for this term, and we have also developed our fitness and stamina further in circuits. We explored different types of feelings in Health and Wellbeing and how to manage these feelings.

Today, we met in our pupil committees again for the first time this term.

 

Thursday 13th November

Thank you to the families who were able to visit us in class today to join our art lesson on pointillism. We created beautiful images of poppies to fit in with our learning around remembrance. We also wrote information texts about Remembrance Day. We learned how to take notes from an unfamiliar text and how to then use those notes to create a report with headings.

In Numeracy, we have been learning about place value in decimal numbers to three decimal places.
We have also been exploring nets in cubes and learning how to draw 3D cubes.

In our Diversity topic, we have explored cultures from other countries to compare with our own. We are started to prepare for our class assembly all about Diversity.
As part of anti-bullying week, we explored the theme Power for Good. We worked together to create an information poster on what we can do to support and help those being bullied. We are enjoying our class novel, The Boy at the Back of the Class. We have had good discussions around bullying and inclusion in a school setting.

On Monday, we have Willie Rennie, MSP, coming to visit us to talk about what he does in his role and how this helps the local area.

We enjoyed working together in loose parts to create a large class den where everyone was under cover. We developed our team work and communication skills.

We continue to enjoy developing our drumming skills with Mr Foggo.

Friday 7th November 2025

We have been learning about the theme ‘Take a Moment’ in Health and Wellbeing. We learned about how the body might react in a stressful situation and what this might look, sound and feel like.

We have spent the start of this week editing and finalising our 500 word stories, ready to submit them on Friday to the BBC competition. We are very proud of our hard work.

In Loose Parts, we worked together to create and play in a large weird and wonderful mansion with lots of different rooms to explore.

In P.E, we have been working hard at developing our fitness in a circuit. We have recorded our results so we can set targets to improve. We also enjoyed a session of rugby outdoors with Mel from Madrascals Rugby.

In our ICT learning, we learned how to use different features in word when creating a bonfire safety poster with the key messages children should know to keep safe.

We also learned how to use a wax resist technique in art when creating firework art.

In drama we have been exploring mime techniques. In our topic of embracing diversity, we have been exploring similarities and differences we have with others. We have begun learning about cultural diversity.

We have been learning about French food and how to read, write and say different items.

In Science, we have explored simple circuits with batteries and how to draw one using symbols.

Friday 31st October

We have had a busy week back in school and we have enjoyed participating in our Skills Academies. We have chosen from Art, Kapla, Netball/Basketball or Micro bits. We have enjoyed working with pupils from other classes too.

In Numeracy, we have been developing our skills in rounding decimals to whole numbers and to one decimal place. We have also learned about Fibonacci sequences. In problem solving, we have been using tangrams and developing our trial and error skills.

We have enjoyed participating in the BBC 500 word challenge and will complete and submit our stories next week.

We have chosen our new reading books and completed a predictor challenge based on the front cover.

In Drama, we developed our skills in mime and used Halloween to inspire our stories. We have also created some haunted house art, using a range of materials.

We have begun thinking about our new topic, Diversity. We considered what we know and what we would like to find out.

Friday 10th October 2025

Today, we had our Harvest Service and we shared our information all about Harvest in Scotland.

We also met in our Pupil Committees for the final time this term.

We have finished our topic on Scotland’s geography and we enjoyed creating a quiz to test each other’s knowledge. We used a mind map to show what we have learned and what skills we have developed.

We have participated in a poetry competition called ‘I have a dream’. We are looking forward to finding out if our work gets published in a book.

In our Numeracy work we have been learning how to multiply 2 digits by a single digit.

In Maths, we have been exploring paper folding and the symmetrical patterns it creates.

We enjoyed loose parts this week and creating shops that had unique selling points.

We looked at the adjectives used to describe Kensuke’s Kingdom from our class novel and used this to draw a picture of what we imagine the island to look like.

We have enjoyed playing football in P.E this week and also some strategic games.

We hope everyone has a lovely holiday and we look forward to seeing everyone again after the holidays.

Friday 3rd October 2025

This week we have been exploring Scottish Islands and working in pairs to carry out research of a different one. We shared our findings. We enjoyed using Loose Parts to create an island that needed to have everything we required to live safe and healthy lives. We used our role play skills to explore the island.

We have developed our use of water colour paint when creating images of Scottish Islands. We enjoyed looking at the work of Scottish artists and sharing our opinions.

In our Writing, we wrote recount pieces, including some of our favourite things about Scotland, focusing on using descriptive language and including our feelings.

We have learned how to filter dirty water in Science and made links to our class novel, Kensuke’s Kingdom, and what we might need to do to survive.

In Numeracy, we have been developing our skills in multiplication. We have also been exploring symmetry as part of our Maths problem solving.

We have enjoyed football skills in P.E and played some mini games.

Today we had our pupil committees and also a House sports challenge organised by our P7 House Captains.
