We have enjoyed lots of Christmas fun this week! We loved taking part in a Christmas STEM challenge, the Christmas Sing-a-Long and the Pupil Council Christmas Quiz.

We have worked so hard this term and I am very proud of you all.

Have a lovely Christmas everyone and see you in January!

Friday 13th December 2024

In Literacy, we have been learning to add similes and figurative language in our writing. We used a Christmas Advert as our stimulus for this. We loved watching it and discussing the themes in the advert such as friendship and kindness. We used Bill’s New Frock by Anne Fine to recap verbs, punctuation and higher order thinking skills.

In Numeracy, we have been showcasing our learning on multiplication and discussing the strategies we have been learning across the term. In Maths, we have been identifying shapes with multiple lines of symmetry, next term we will create our own pictures to show multiple lines of symmetry.

In PE, we focused on teamwork, cooperation and being a good sportsperson through games like dodgeball and bench ball. We used the 5 point scale to discuss how we felt throughout the game.

In Art, we have been enhancing our motor skills and cooperation by learning about origami to create our Christmas Cards.

We had committees this week and really enjoyed taking part in the Christmas Jumper Hunt which was planned by the Enterprise committee.

We used the iPads to show a friend our ePortfolio and reflect on our work. We also chose a piece of work we are very proud of and we can’t wait to share it all with you at home!

We loved watching the P1 Nativity this morning, they did so well!

In Numeracy, we have been showing resilience and motivation by challenging ourselves to multiply larger numbers!

In Literacy, we have continued to explore themes in our class novel. We have been skimming and scanning text and using our novel to learn about speech marks.

In PE, we played mini football games using the skills we have been learning. We showed resilience and co-operation and all worked well as a team. We continued to practise shooting, too!

In Art, we took inspiration from artist Christa Rijneveld and created our own mountainous landscapes using black card and white chalk. We used lines and dots to create texture, they look amazing up on our classroom wall.

We visited the P7 Christmas Market and enjoyed buying cakes, books, festive decorations and raffle tickets.

We have made festive jokes to go out to the community! We enjoyed researching these.

Have a great weekend!

Friday 29th November 2024

In Literacy, we read Chapter 3 and 4 of Bill’s New Frock. We took notes on the chapters which helped us to write a summary. We also skimmed and scanned the text to find key information to help us answer inferential questions. We are continuing to work on answering these in full sentences.

In Numeracy, we have been practising our times tables, multiply 2 digits by 1 digit and 3 digit by 1 digit numbers. We have also been playing around the world – our favourite times table game!

In Maths, we learned about tesselation and looked at various examples of tesselation in our environment.

In Health and Wellbeing, we learned how to help someone when they are choking.

In PE, we continued to practise controlling the ball, dribbling, passing and this week we learned how to shoot at a target.

In Art, we looked at silhouettes and scale. This helped us create our Winter Wonderland artwork for the display in the school hall. They look fantastic!

In ICT, we have been using tinkercad to design a decoration and print these using the 3D printer. We have also been accessing our Glow ePortfolios and discussing our work with a partner. We added some new games to our launch pad and have been continuing to play Cookin Castle which links to our food and health learning this term.

We had committees this week and really enjoyed these!

Have a great weekend everyone! Miss Irvine 🙂

Friday 22nd November 2024

In PE, we have been continuing to practice dribble and passing a ball using our foot-eye coordination. This week, we extended our learning by shooting at a small target.

In Literacy, we have been drawing inferences such as inferring characters feelings, thoughts and motives. We have been identifying main ideas of text and summarising these.

In Numeracy, we have been multiplying using a range of strategies. We are ready to challenge ourselves more in this area of our learning.

In Art, we have been learning to mix paints to create illusions. We are creating artwork for our ‘Winter Wonderland’ display.

In Health and Wellbeing, we have been identifying food groups and discussing how much of each food group we should be eating. We identified foods high in fat, salt and sugar and discussed how many times a week we should be eating these to ensure we have a healthy and varied diet.

In French, we have been learning about fruits. We learned to say these to our partner. Next week, we will write these by creating a poster for a fruit smoothie for a French café.

We all had our committees this week and enjoyed sharing this with our peers when we returned to class.

Have a great weekend, well done for all your hard work this week 🙂

Friday 8th November 2024

In Literacy, we have been reading our new book Bill’s New Frock. We predicted what the book was about based on the front cover, we then read Chapter 1 and predicted Chapter 2. We used loose parts to show our predictions and acted these out to the rest of the class.

In Maths and Numeracy, we have been classifying prisms and pyramids. We have been continuing a repeating number pattern and using our addition and subtraction knowledge to help us.

In Art, we have been using line to create pattern. We used pictures online to support us with the texture we could create using line.

In PE, we have been passing the ball using the inside of our foot. We have been passing through a target and to a partner. We worked co-operatively to control the ball.

In Health and Wellbeing, we have been discussing resilience. We used ‘resilience capes’ to share strategies that could help us be more resilient in class.

In French, we recapped numbers to 20, body parts and finished our work from last week on Halloween.

In ICT, we are using touch technology to access Glow. We learned to change our passwords and create safe and memorable passwords. We logged into Glow independently and accessed Sumdog.

Friday 25th October 2024

This week, we had Miss Irvine back from maternity.

Today, we completed our Term 2 Targets.

In Literacy, we practised our spelling words and completed our spelling test. We wrote an informal letter to Miss Irvine to tell her all about us, what we enjoy about school and what helps us be the best we can be at school.

In Numeracy, we practised our times tables using arrays to help us solve them. We consolidated our learning of addition, subtraction and place value. We worked independently and challenged ourselves with some problem solving.

In PE, we were learning to communicate and work as a team to participate effectively in team games. We played games that practiced our throwing and catching skills.

We all went to our skills academy to learn a new skill! We have really enjoyed doing this.

Looking forward to next week P4! Have a great weekend.
