We have a had a very productive week this week.

In ICT we focused on research skills online and how to search safely on google.  We looked for famous failures for kids.  In literacy, we looked at note taking based on what we found and created our own posters about our famous people.  We picked JK Rowling, Michael Jordon, Walt Disney and Albert Einstein to create our posters about.  We worked on the joins between ip, ig, is, uy, us and up.

In Numeracy, we looked at fact families and a part part whole model. On Tuesday we looked at how to use split strategy to work out sums of 2 digit, 3 digit and 4 digit numbers.  On Wednesday, we looked at finding the halfway point between two numbers.  Some children used help from a numberline while others learnt the strategy which they add the two numbers together and then divide it by 2.

In HWB, we looked at stop and stuck strategies that help us.  We also were able to discuss what was a big problem and what was a little problem.  Lastly, on Wednesday, we refreshed why it is important to be kind to others and shared kind compliments to our friends.

In Music, we introduced the use of glockenspiels. Everyone got a turn of trying to follow along with the music.

In Outdoor Learning, we did a wildlife survey from the RSPB on minibeasts.  The children used tally marks and a grid to keep track of how many creatures they found.

In PE, we worked on teambuilding games.  We were able to play cross the river, pass the hoop and complete an obstacle course outside.

Hope you all have a lovely rest of week.

This week we had Mrs Alexander help us with our writing. She will be helping support our writing every 3 weeks. We were learning to write our character and setting descriptions in a personal story about a time we were surprised. Most children picked a story about a birthday.
We also learnt how to self assess our work and highlight the success criteria throughout our work.
In Numeracy, we looked at ordering numbers and rounding to the closest 10, 100. We also looked at probability.

We learnt about the learning pit and made our own characters to go on the learning pit. We looked at famous celebrities and discussed if we born to be something or did we have to learn it.  We had lots of interesting ideas in our discussion and table we made together.

In PE we continued different team games and focussed on collaboration, resilience and perseverance this week.

Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday

We have been super busy this week.

In Literacy, we carried on with our descriptive work, including describing our dream bedroom.  We learnt that drafts are important for writing and focussed on using our corrections to produce our best piece of work.  We started our new spelling words and our reading groups.

In Numeracy, we have been looking at mental maths strategies and using them to help us solve addition equations.  We have been continuing our work with place value and calculating number patterns in 1s, 10s, 100s and 1000s.

In Health and Wellbeing, we read the story “Mirette on the High Wire” by Emily Arnold McCully and discussed the importance of resilience and perseverance when tackling difficult challenges.  We looked at the human brain and how neurons fire information.  We then learnt about how our brain looks with a fixed mindset and a growth mindset.

In Drama, we acted out scenes from our class novel “The boy who grew dragons” by Andy Shepard.

In Science, we started investigating the difference between living and non-living things.

I hope you all have a fantastic rest of week and I look forward to seeing you on Monday.

We have had a great week so far in primary 4.

We have been learning about our wellbeing indicators and discussing how these needs are met in school.  We wrote about various ways that we are safe, healthy, achieving, nurtured, active, respected, responsible and included at school.

We investigated our learning characteristics and worked as a team to create a poster about them.

In Numeracy, we looked at how to read place value blocks and some of us were able to identify ten thousands, thousands, hundreds, tens and ones in a number.  We also played a game involving odd and even numbers.

In Literacy, we looked at character descriptions.  We drew a picture of a friend or family member, then we create spider diagrams with facts about them.  We used this to help us write a paragraph about our character.

In Drama, we looked at emotions and passed various emotions round the circle.  We enjoyed playing emotion detective too.

In PE, we enjoyed playing team games like volvanoes and valleys.

We chose our Pupil Council members and our House Captains for this year.

Using Charanga, we started our music for this term.  We are looking forward to using the glockenspiels in the future.  Today, we focused on warm ups, evaluating the song and singing the song.

Hope you all have a lovely rest of week.
