Friday21st November 2025

This week we followed an autumn themed yoga story and practiced different yoga poses. the favourite pose was the squirrel and the bear. We also learned a new game called coconut. in Maths we finished off our learning on measuring length and are ready to start mass and capacity. on Thursday afternoon we had Miss Good who did some maths in the real world and tally marks. We also had committees and outdoor learning this week and we started work on our festive frieze.

Monday to Wednesday with Mrs Meiklem

This week we have been sharing lots of stories together for Book Week Scotland. We have enjoyed writing about the different characters too.
In numeracy the P2s are adding within 20 with number lines and the P3s are adding two digits within 100 mentally.
We were all learning about maths in the world with Miss Goode.
We did Loose Parts Play with the P1s and fitness and the daily mile too.
In writing we learnt how to make a cup of tea and wrote a set of instructions.

Thursady 13th November 2025

We have had a lovely shared learning this morning with some of our parents and carers. We worked together to make collage, feather owls just like Plop from our story ‘The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark’. The owls were peeping out of a 3D tree. We are all very pleased with our results. In Math’s we have been measuring in non standard units and standard units. in Outdoor learning we were able to choose which group we were working in to work with different children in our year groups. In Literacy we have started learning about ! and ?.

Friday 7th November 2025

What a busy couple of days we have had. We have started a new class novel with Mrs Robertson. It is The Owl Who was afraid of the dark and we are enjoying learning about Plop the baby barn owl. In Literacy we were practicing how to use a word bank to complete sentences about our novel. In PE we started learning some yoga poses but we need a bit of practice. In Maths we have been working more on measure. some of us have been estimating and measuring in meters and some of us have been measuring in non standard units of measure. We have all been very busy measuring different things. We started a new block in outdoor learning. We got to chose from three different activities, one of them was creating the longest creature, estimating its length and measuring. there was a lot of laughs! In Health and Wellbeing we started learning about why people might feel stressed. We thought about what that meant, what it felt like and we shared our experiences. We read a book called Cora’s Dragon and created our own dragons. It is our turn to decorate one of the notice bods so this week in art we started creating cosy pictures called nestled with a book. we used emphasis to paint a big moon, we did printing with leaves to create texture and depth and we used our sketching skills to draw a little creature. we didn’t quite have enough time to piece them together so we will finish this next week.

Monday to Wednesday with Mrs Meiklem

This week we enjoyed joining p1 for Loose Parts Play and the daily mile.
We wrote instructions and also practised the skills for delivering individual talks.
We used puppets and the puppet theatres in drama to create short improvisations about including others. We filmed them in the iPads and gave each other feedback.
In numeracy the P2s are beginning to add within 20 and the P3s within 100.

Friday 31st October

We have had a lovely first week back. In PE we took part in a variety of Halloween themed games, where we worked on our fitness, problem solving, communication and team building skills. In health we have completed work on strategies to use in challenging situations such as using our stop shield, talking to a trusted friend or adult and taking deep breaths…. We have also started discussing the different feelings we feel over the course of a day and how everyone is different. we made feelings flowers and hung them up to make a feelings garden. In math’s we started learning about measuring lengths. We discussed longest, tallest, shortest and  about the same. we discussed how important it is to line objects up  before we measure and we spoke about how many cm are in 1 meter. Don’t forget to ask me about my skills academy!

Monday to Wednesday with Mrs Meiklem

It has been so nice to see everyone after the holidays.
We have all had a great time in our Skills Academies- Lego, animation, games and printing.
We went out in the sunshine for Loose Parts Play with the p1 class and showed great cooperation and creativity with our builds.
We tried hard at the daily mile and also in PE with our fitness challenges.
In writing we are learning to write a good set of instructions. We did dooking for apples and wrote about it!
Our new spelling rules are ‘zz’ in p2 and ‘ea’ in p3. The p3s have started to learn the first joins in handwriting.

Friday 10t October 2025

This week in maths we continued our learning about shapes. We focused on 2D and 3D shapes and we made 3D shapes with Play-Doh. We also learned about faces, edges and vertices. We finished out autumn wax resist leaves, discussed harvest festival and thing we are thankful for and we practiced our songs and words for the Harvest Service. Happy holidays!

Monday to Wednesday with Mrs Meiklem

This week we have been playing lots of spelling games to revise the taught rules from this term. We have also tested our common words again and made individual spelling lists to practise words we find tricky.
We have enjoyed ‘Wild ERIC’ this week, where we are all reading in class, choosing from the class library. We are allowed to read anywhere in the room. On pillows, under desks, on the teacher’s chair!
In numeracy we have been ordering and sequencing numbers to 100 for p2 and 1000 for p3  and working on mental addition strategies.

Friday 3rd October 2025

We have been enjoying playing mini games in football this week. We have been working on our dribbling, passing and shooting skills as well as communication, problem solving and listening. In outdoor learning we have now had a chance to do all three of the activities, natural story builders, bird watching and tree aging. its been very interesting exploring these activities in our year groups. in Literacy we have been focusing o the connectives but, so and and. We have been using these in sentences and creating our own. In maths we have finished up our work on cross-sections of 3D shapes. we have explored play-doh, shapes, games and activities. For RME we have been learning about Harvest. We thought about the gifts that Autumn brings and things that we can be thankful for. in Art we finished making Autumn leaves using wax resist to create patterns using lines and shapes. We love the Autumn colours we used.
