This week we have been looking at different patterns in numbers such as, the teens numbers, counting in 10’s, 5’2 and 2’s. We have also been discussing even and odd numbers and we found out that when you add 2 odd numbers you always get an even number and when you multiply by 2 you always get an even number. In Literacy we have been learning about the past and present tense. We played a game of musical chairs where we had to write down the past tense verb once we sat down. It was lots of fun! For outdoor learning we explored signs of spring. We researched which flowers were spring time flowers and found out about Daffodils, Crocuses and Snow Drops. For Science we conducted an investigation into properties of materials. We explored which materials were best for building boats, bridges and making bouncy balls. We loved exploring and being creative. We also decided the winning properties for these things. there was a lot of team work, creativity and questioning skills.

This week we have been learning about fractions and weddings in RME with Miss Allan.
We have been practising letters with tails below the line. P3s are learning some joins.
We made the most of the sunshine for outdoor learning in the nursery garden.
Our class library has been restocked and we have been exploring the new non-fiction and fiction books during ‘‘Drop Everything and Read’.
In PE we continued to use the apparatus for gymnastics. We are beginning to create our own sequences.
We had a class discussion about hunting animals and then wrote about it.
Friday 7th March
This we we enjoyed celebrating World Book Day. It was lovely to see everyone dressed up and to hear about their favourite books. We had a Teams author visit from Greg Stobbs, the author of Cloud Boy. We loved hearing and being part of the picture book about a boy who loved to dream and use his imagination. We also got to do a character draw along and ask him some questions. This week we have also designed our own character for a competition then we made our own mini picture books becoming author/ illustrators ourselves. We got to explore the books for the book fair and will be visiting next Wednesday to make any purchases. The Book Fair will also be open Tuesday and Wednesday 15:00-15:30.
We have allso been busy creating I am unique rainbows, building boats from tinfoil, making number patterns with teens numbers or doubling and halving and finally keeping fit with tabats at PE.

This week we enjoyed keeping the beat and moving to the music. We listened to songs from different genres of music and discussed what we thought and what instruments we could hear. We learned a new song from the Latin genre.
In literacy we have been doing class debates and writing discussions for the first time. We were all very respectful of other people’s opinions and spoke confidently about what we thought.
We had fun exploring in the nursery garden with p1/2 for outdoor learning.
Our handwriting focus has been letters which start like a ‘c’. The p3s are learning the first group of joins. We have practised all week and our handwriting heroes are on display!
We liked using the equipment in gymnastics again today and were able to make up our own sequences of rolls, balances, jumps and types of travelling.
Friday 28th February 2025
In maths this week we have been continuing to learn about number sequences and patterns. some of us were learning about doubling and halving and we all had a go at creating our own rules and number sequences. Some of us were on Sumdog this week and were trying to improve our accuracy. We were making sure we were reading the questions carefully and taking the time to work the answers out. We also made repeating patterns with pegs, cubes and shapes.
In outdoor learning we worked in pairs to create a x’s and o’s game board and used natural materials to play the game. We had lots of fun and used our communication, creativity and problem solving skills.
In science we were learning about properties of materials and spent some time learning about Opaque, translucent and transparent. We used torches to investigate which materials were what.

This week we have been doing lots of skip counting within 100 and then 1000. We liked playing the ‘triangle of doom’ game.
We finished our writing block on letter writing this week. Everyone is working well to check and edit their own writing.
The sun was shining for Loose Parts Play this week and we went out with p1/2 to explore. In music we sang songs from the rap and funk genres of music.
This week in PE we used the large apparatus for gymnastics. We are practising travelling, jumping, rolling and balances.
Friday 21st February
On Thursday we were learning about number patterns we explored different patterns and some of us had a go at creating our own rules and patterns. Unfortunately it was raining for outdoor learning so we did a memory game inside where we used our communication and thinking skills. In Literacy we started learning about adjectives and we had to come up with adjectives for different pictures around the classroom. It got tricky as we had to read the ones already written down and use a new one. We read a book called Mixed A Colourful Story by Aree Chung. In Art we decided to make Aree Chung inspired pictures by mixing different colours and drawing simple facial expressions to show different emotions. In H&W the focus was about taking part in group activities and ensuring we all get along. We did this through our memory game and by playing Would you Rather?
On Friday, with Miss Allan, we were learning about fractions of a number. We enjoyed finding halves and quarters of quantities by sorting and grouping objects. We used Scratch Jr on the iPads to code our sprites to ‘bump’ into each other which caused a chain reaction for another sprite to move. We enjoyed using our imaginations to combine characters, backgrounds, sounds and words to our projects.

This week we have been enjoying lots of new number games on the smartboard. We have also been practising our numeracy skills on Sumdog.
p3s have been working on mental addition within 100 and adding 3 or 4 smaller numbers together.
P2s have been using different mental strategies and resources to do subtraction within 20.
In writing we wrote letters about our holiday weekends. We used different openers, connectives and wow words. We gave group feedback by marking work on the visualiser. The p3s highlighted green the parts from the success criteria they had in their work.
We have enjoyed practising our phonics and sequencing sentences from a variety of books from the class library. We enjoyed exploring non-fiction and fiction texts during ‘drop everything and read’ times. We practised letter formations and p3s are starting to join some letters.
The weather was kind and we got outside for Loose Parts Play this week. We voted for a free play and worked hard to follow the FAIR agreement- to have fun, to be aware ,to use our imaginations and to be responsible and respectful.
In music we sang some hip hop songs. we liked the rap part. In PE we made up a class dance.
Tuesday the 11th of February 2025
It was wonderful to show lots of families our classroom on Tuesday. We enjoyed being creative with you all and doing our Tay Whale art. We are going to enter them into the Scottish Fisheries art competition- ‘Hidden Histories On Your Doorstep’.
Topic has been really interesting this week. We decided to write Newspaper articles about the Tay Whale.

Friday 7th February 2025
This week in outdoor learning we made bird feeders. We spread butter on cardboard tubes, rolled them in seeds and strung them upon trees. We have already noticed some birds feeding from them.
In maths we started to learn about function machines and had a go at solving some addition and subtraction ones.
For Literacy we were playing more verb games and we were using different verbs in our writing.
In PE we have started to learn about fitness. we learnt about the importance of a good warm up and had a go at a fitness circuit. Some of us worked really hard.
