Monday to Wednesday with Mrs Meiklem

We have been working hard to practise our class assembly this week. We are using loud clear voices and gaining confidence when being part of a performance. We have helped to plan the props, costumes and what to say.
We made our own weather instruments this week and also learned about tornadoes. We have been exploring our non-fiction topic books. We enjoyed working with P1/2 at Loose Parts.

Friday 8th November

This week we continued our learning around question marks. We played lots of games which helped us to learn how to ask questions and about different question words. WE also had opportunities to write questions for some very strange pictures. We created bonfire natural art in outdoor learning where we used creativity, problem solving and communication skills. We started looking at capacity of water in math’s. In science we were learning about different states of matter, solids, liquids and gasses and we played some games to help us visualise what atoms might look like in these different states. Art was tricky this week! We made optical illusions, we created waves but only used diagonal ang vertical lines. we used rulers to create the lines, cutting skills and lots of careful following of instructions to create or beautiful art.

Thursday and Friday 1/11/24 with Mrs Robertson

We have been very busy in Primary 2/3! For outdoor learning we used sticks to make skeletons. We used a picture to help us and tried to get the scale correct. We used lots of skills as well as our maths skills, such as, creativity, problem solving and teamwork.

In literacy we have been continuing to learn about question marks. We played lots of Halloween themed games where you had to ask questions and we wrote down some of the questions we generated.

 

For art we created spooky pictures using shape and colour mixing to create a colour gradient. We are very please with the outcome!

 

For Science we were learning about atoms and how they make up everything. We played a fun game where we pretended to be atoms. We had to join up with others’ and make different objects.

 

We started learning about Yoga in PE. it was very relaxing after a busy week. We followed a Halloween story and tried lots of new poses.

Wednesday the 30th of October 2024


Monday to Wednesday with Mrs Meiklem

This week we enjoyed making Halloween crafts and writing a potion recipe. We read the ‘Funnybones’ stories and then were inspired to build the ghost train during Loose Parts Play.
We all enjoyed taking part in the Skills Academy sessions again this week.
We started our new topic which is all about weather. We discussed what we already know and what we’d like to find out. We also started to plan our class assembly.
In PE we worked on rolls and jumps and performed short individual gymnastics sequences.

Thursday and Friday 25th October with Mrs Robertson

A great first week back! We have been starting to learn about question marks and where they should go in our writing. The p3’s have also started generating some questions.

In maths we were using scales to measure different weights and make comparisons.

For outdoor learning we practiced our mapping skills. We had a go at drawing maps of the nursery garden using symbols. it was tricky to illustrate everything in the correct place. we then used our maps to hide and find treasure. It was lots of fun!

 

Wednesday the 23rd of October 2024

It has been so nice to be back after the holidays and to share what we’ve all been up to.
We are learning how to write a good set of instructions. We write about how to make a stick puppet.
In numeracy the p3s have been counting in 10s and 100s from any number within 1000.  The P2s have been counting in 2s, 5s and 10s within 100.
We enjoyed working in groups to perform short role plays on a stage in front of an audience. In PE we practised different types of travelling and balances.
We all enjoyed taking part in the Skills Academy lessons.

Friday the 4th of October 2024

Wednesday to Friday with Mrs Meiklem

This week we enjoyed getting together with our Pupil Committees.
In literacy we are learning how to write a good description. We played football in PE. We are working in communication skills.
We got together with the P2s and P3s to do outdoor learning and made Autumn sun catchers.

Friday 27th September

This week we have been learning about connectives in literacy to help make our writing more interesting. We got to do blether stations and build roads with connective for our cars to drive over and we have found some interesting online games to help us practice.

In outdoor learning we went on a minibeast hunt and were surprised at how many different types we found. Dark damp places were the best spots to look.

In PE we were playing games of netball. our passing skills are really improving but we want to improve our marking skills.

We have also been learning about using cool responses when we come across challenges in the playground or classroom. We have been practicing and role playing our strong responses and thinking about different ways to resolve any issues.

Monday to Wednesday with Mrs Meiklem

This week we loved picking apples and using the juicer to make our own delicious apple juice! We also continued following our interests by learning more about bees for topic. The Primary 5s came and delivered a talk to us all about the school beehive and we have been doing our own research.
It is Maths Week Scotland this week and we have been using Sumdog to practise some mental maths skills. In numeracy some of us were learning how to find and estimate numbers on a number line.
This week in our big writing lesson we wanted to write spooky ghost stories. We turned out the lights and shared some of our creations with the class.
We have been enjoying singing our harvest songs and practising our performance for the School Service.
