What a fun last week of term we’ve had! We loved our Christmas parties 🥳 and enjoyed sewing our Christmas craft.
We read lots of Christmas stories and wrote some super descriptions of Santa. PE was fun with lots of Christmas themed games!
Have a wonderful holiday everyone. I can’t wait to hear all of your news in January next year!!!!
This week in maths we have been revising different times, both analogue and digital. In Literacy we have been consolidating our learning on full stops, question marks and exclamation marks. For outdoor learning we made frosty snowmen sing the frost and natural materials. we used our group working skills, cooperation and creativity.
We had a special message from Santa asking us to help design science experiments to find out the melting. boiling and freezing point of water. we intend to carry out our experiments next week.
We have also enjoyed watching the Primary 1 Nativity which was brilliant and our Festive Friday, making cards.
This week we worked together to make Santa sleighs, grottos and workshops.
We also started sewing our baubles for our trees at home.
We wrote descriptions about a mammoth from our story this week. They were fantastic!
In PE we did some fitness circuits!
With Miss Allan some of us learnt about Roman numerals all the way up to 15! We also learned about how useful numeracy and math’s are in the real world for many different careers. We found out about how coordinates were invented by a scientist and a spider on the ceiling. For ICT we used the Ipads and the app Sketches School to do Christmas drawing. we used a black outline and used colours to fill. We also looked at the Christmas Nativity story and discussed why the angels and shepherds were so special.
We enjoyed our festive Friday today. We made joke books and Christmas cards for the local community which we can’t wait to share. We also had our committees and practiced some Christmas songs for the end of term service.
This week we have enjoyed working together to create a Christmas display for the hall. We chose to make Christmas trees and snowflakes.
For outdoor learning we used our knowledge of symmetry and patterns to create natural pictures. we cut interestingly shaped leaves in half, and using a mirror to help, we drew the other side and copied the patterns. they turned out very cool.
We have been learning about the months of the year. WE are all very good at ordering the months of the year and some of us were using calendars to record information.
We have been learning about being resilient. we made graphs to plot how we felt in different situations. everyone’s graphs were different showing as we all feel things differently. we also made rivers of life to illustrate our up days and down days. Finally we made resilience capes to record different coping strategies for down days.
This week we wrote a set of instructions about how to wash your hands properly. We all acted it out to make sure we had the right steps. We are able to identify verbs and number our steps.
In numeracy we have spent time adding 10 to any number within 100 and within 1000 at our own level. We discussed the different language for addition and made up a list of ‘stuck stop’ strategies to help us solve addition problems.
We finished researching for our weather talks and performed them in front of the class. We tried hard to speak in a clear voice and to look at the audience. Well done to everyone for super posters and interesting talks!
In PE we made up gymnastics sequences in a group of 4. We had to perform a repeated pattern. Other groups had to guess what would come next.
Another busy couple of days in Primary 2/3. In literacy we have been learning about exclamation marks. we played fun games to practice when to use them and looked at funny pictures to help us create our own exclamation sentences.
For outdoor learning we created Rangoli patterns with chalk and filled them in with natural resources. we thought about the different shapes we could use, how to make repeated patterns and the types of colours. We all really enjoyed this activity.
We have also been scientists this week. we have been exploring the different states of water (liquid, solid and gas). we took some time to explore the different states and used observation journals to describe their form.
Thank you to all who attended the Newport Christmas Lights Switch on. The children were fabulous and they all had a wonderful time.

A very big well done to everyone for their super performance 🎭 at our class assembly! You were all amazing!
We had fun making Paddington Marmalade Sandwiches 🥪 and writing a set of instructions.
It was very cold but we braved the weather and made buildings to withstand tornadoes in Loose Parts Play.
For topic we started to research things we are interested in about our weather topic. We are going to make posters and present individual talks to the class about our chosen topic.
In PE we used rolls, jumps, different types of balances and ways of travelling to make gymnastics sequences.
For Book Week we were involved in a shared read with a famous author and got to draw the characters.
We were excited for our special grown ups to meet with our teachers to hear about all of our hard work this week.
Today was a very busy day! We loved welcoming so many parents and carers into our shared learning this morning to help us make some Mondrian-inspired Windsocks. We have been learning about the use of vertical and horizontal lines and primary colours which we put to use in our creations. In maths, we continued with capacity and had lots of fun measuring sand and water to make different weights and experimenting with how much different containers could hold. In Literacy we were working on our comprehension skills and read some interesting texts about dragons. We took some time to practice our assembly which we are looking forward to sharing with you on Monday.
