This week we loved trying out Karate in a Karate taster session from Kanzen Karate. We learnt about kindness to others, some stances and played some exciting games. We did a big literacy job to show our learning about nouns, verbs and adjectives. we created our own monsters and used them to write about. in maths we have been starting to finish our learning on time. we should all be able to tell the time to o’clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to. In Art we learnt about scale and we drew habitats for animals. in science we started using our ICT skill to write instructions for making a simple circuit using the Book Creator app. We cant wait to finish this next week. Finally we said good bye to Miss Drummond. She has been amazing and we spent time remembering all the amazing lessons she thought us. We will miss her.

Monday and Tuesday with Mrs Meiklem
We enjoyed working collaboratively to create our own hip hop dances in groups for PE.
We also learned about the ‘three Js- jute, jam and journalism’ in topic. We then made our very own comic strips inspired by Dundee’s famous Beano magazine!
On Tuesday we enjoyed welcoming our grown ups for our Shared Learning Event. It was so nice to have you all in our classroom.
We all wrote imaginative stories and self- assessed our work after editing and self- correcting.
We worked with spelling partners on common words.
It was Internet Safety Week and on Tuesday we learned how to make sure we stay safe online. We created posters to teach others about the dangers online.
Friday 6th February
This week we had a ceilidh in PE we danced the two dances we know to pop songs and we learnt the Military Two Step. It was the best time ever! We put our learning of nouns, verbs and adjectives together to create silly sentences with dice. We are feeling very confident with our grammar. we have been continuing our learning with time looking at analogue and digital times, such as o’clock, quarter past, half past and quarter to. In Art we used line, shape colour and texture to create castles, inspired by the yellow castle in Newort. These will be our entries for the yellow castle competition at the Rio. For science we are starting to learn about simple electrical circuits. we have been learning that electricity likes to travel round the circuit until it reaches back home. We all had an opportunity to make a circuit with a bulb and we could even add in a switch. The trick part was learning the symbols to draw our circuits.

Monday to Wednesday with Mrs Meiklem
This week we had fun adding to our group dance in PE. We are dancing to Jai Ho and we are adding lots of Indian Bangra music dance moves. We loved watching it back on the iPad after filming ourselves.
In numeracy we are all working on subtraction at our own levels. We are becoming more independent and selecting appropriate materials and mental strategies. The p3s were working with double digit numbers within 100 and learning how to round numbers or use a ‘split strategy’ for subtraction. The P2s are working hard to use a number line to solve subtraction problems within 20.
In literacy we have been practising the skill of note taking. We are also learning how to have a class debate. This week we worked to debate whether we should eat more insects to help the environment, using our notes to help answer questions.
In French we learned how to talk about the weather.
For topic we were learning about famous Dundonian inventors and how their inventions changed people’s lives. We also created a class museum last week which was very interesting. Pictures attached!
We used boomwhackers in music this week.

Friday 30th January
This week in PE, we learned the Scottish country dance, the military to step. We had so much fun clapping to the beat, skipping to the beat, even hopping to the beat and we loved having the opportunity to share our dancing with each other. In literacy we were learning about verbs. We watched a video where we had to dance and act out lots of verbs. It was so much fun. In maths we have been continuing our learning about time we’ve all been learning about o’clock half past and quarter past some of us have been learning about quarter to and we have been reading times in both analog and digital. we have also played lots of games involving time to help strengthen our understanding. In health and well-being we continued our work on worries and we had a circle time to discuss who can help us when we’re feeling worried. We have had lots of opportunities to share our worries and solve in class. In science we continued our new topic of electricity. We have been learning about different appliances and talking about how they are electrical non-electrical and whether they use a battery or remains power supply. We used a vent diagram to categorise the appliances. We also had the opportunity to explore components for an electrical circuit. some of us managed to make the lightbulb light or a fan spin we can’t wait to learn more about this next week.

Monday to Wednesday with Mrs Meiklem
This week we have been learning about the Tay Whale and talking about the whaling industry in Dundee at that time in history. We took notes and then had a class discussion about whether whaling should be illegal in all places in the world. We were able to give good reasons for our opinions and listen to others respectfully.
We created our own whale art work using cold colours and poster paints. We created a class art gallery and gave each other peer feedback.
We wrote newspaper articles about the whale.
In PE we are creating a group Bollywood group dance. We filmed ourselves and watched it back on the smart board in the classroom.
We also made a classroom museum to look at old artefacts and discussed how we can see if they are a reliable source of information from the past.
In numeracy we are working on subtraction. P2s within 20 and p3s within 100. We focussed taking away multiples of 10.
Friday 23rd January 2026
This week we had lots of fun learning the Gay Gordon’s and we even managed to dance it to Cotton Eye Joe! it was very fast but we managed to keep up. we started learning about time this week. some of us were learning the months of the year and others were using a calendar. We also revised some times on an analogue clock. In literacy we were using nouns in a sentence and some of us were learning about common and proper nouns. In Health we talked more about our worries and created a class worry box. we worked collaboratively to solve our friends worries. our new topic in science is electricity and we started talking about what it is and how we use it. We realised this links very well with our learning about energy last term.

Monday to Wednesday with Mrs Meiklem
Another lovely week together this week! Also a warm welcome to Miss Drummond who is doing her teacher training placement with us for the next few weeks.
This week we have enjoyed learning more about the Dundee Jute Mills in our topic. We also learned about the old ferry to Dundee and created some wonderful wax resist art work, inspired by famous artist James Rizzi. We are enjoying responding to the children’s’ questions and interests.
In numeracy we are continuing to work on different subtraction strategies at our own level.
In PE we were creating dances with a partner to pop music. We talked about how the music made us feel and gave each other feedback on our performances.
We loved hearing everyone’s Scots Poems this week. What a super effort from everyone. The class were so encouraging to one another and celebrated each other’s successes with claps and high fives!
In writing we created our own Scots Poems and had fun reading them out.
We were learning about the old ferry from Newport to Dundee. We hope you like our art work.
Next week we are going to create our own class museum with old artefacts that are linked to our community and Dundee. Please look out for a note about this.
Friday 16th January 2026
This week we loved starting to learn the Gay Gordan’s for Scottish Country Dancing/ We had to count the beat, move to the beat and start to learn the steps. There was lots of skipping, clapping and dancing. We finished off learning about Capacity in maths. we used the sand and water to measure in Liters and in no-standard units. In Literacy we were continuing to learn about nouns. We were categorising them and hunting for them. Our student Teacher Miss Drummond shared all about here and we shared all our favourite things with here. We also designed a whole class feelings check in system as part of Health. Sometimes its easier to show how we are feeling, rather than say. We finished off our week with art where we created lovely hibernating hedgehogs. We used oil pastels, crayons and paint. They look amazing.
Friday 9th January 2026
We have loved being back together this week and catching up with all our friends! We have also enjoyed skills academy, we had 4 to chose from. There was animation, printing, Lego and games. in Literacy we started talking about nouns. we went on a noun hunt and categorised nouns into people, places and things. in maths we have been continuing learning a lot capacity. some of us have been measuring in liters and some of us in non-standard units. For health, we have been discussing worries, what they feel like, where we feel them on our bodies and what to do with them. We know it is important to share our worries so they don’t snowball out of control. We had a fun week back in PE, paying team games such as dodge ball and bench ball.
