Monday to Wednesday with Mrs Meiklem
What a wonderful trip we had on Tuesday! A very big thank you to Mrs Robertson and our parent helpers who came with us. The sun was shining and we managed to fit in all of our wish list from planning the trip together. We looked at landmarks and talked about Newport in the past. We particularly enjoyed playing in the woods and exploring the old hidden railway tracks. We spotted lots of birds, heard a woodpecker and even saw some deer. We did a conga on the grass together and a treasure hunt. At the end we finished with a play at Kinbrae Park.
We have also been learning about what to do in an emergency if someone is hurt. We acted out different scenarios and practised the recovery position.
On Monday we had committees.
We also did some Easter crafting and practised our songs for the service.
Friday 28th March
This week we have been learning about the Easter Story. We watched a video, wrote and drew what we could remember about the different days of the story. We have also been learning about grid references where we had to find different pictures on a map using letters and numbers. we have been continuing to learn about 2D and 3D shape. We tried some trickier comprehension and we all worked hard to read, understand and answer in full sentences. We have continued to learn about fitness, creating our own excise routines. In health we have been learning to play to our strengths so we came up with superhero names to match our super powers.

Monday to Wednesday with Mrs Meiklem
This week we have all been working in our committees with pupils from all of the classes in the school. We have all been busy organising, leading and communicating with others.
We have been practising our songs for the Easter service which has been making us all feel happy and spring like!
In literacy we discussed whether snail slime soap was a good idea. There were a lot of strong opinions but we listened well to everyone’s points and took turns. We then turned this into a discussion written piece of work. We are all much more confident in how to structure this and the key words to use.
In numeracy P2s are improving their mental maths skills and strategies for addition and subtraction within 20. Lots of us are going further to work within 100!
The p3s are subtracting 9 and 11 within 100.
PE gymnastics was an opportunity to work on our peer feedback skills.
In topic we planned our trip to Berry’s Den which is next Tuesday. Don’t forget to look at the kit list of what to wear and bring.
Another lovely week!!!
Friday 21st March 2025
This week we created our own spring poems. They were called ‘If I Were a Spring animal’. We imagined what it would be like to be a particular spring animal, making sure to use adjectives and verbs. We are very proud of our poems. We have also been learning about dissolving and exploring what dissolves and what doesn’t. We loved experimenting with the different solutes and even left some over night. In maths we have been looking at 2D and 3D shapes. We hid the shapes in a bag and did our best to describe the shapes to a friend. We thought about edges, corners and faces. In art we designed and created springtime Easter Bonnets for the Easter service. We used different materials shapes and patters. Finally we really enjoyed our compliment tunnel in H&W. we each took a turn to walk through the tunnel of hands while everyone paid them a compliment. We all felt really special.

This week we have been looking at different patterns in numbers such as, the teens numbers, counting in 10’s, 5’2 and 2’s. We have also been discussing even and odd numbers and we found out that when you add 2 odd numbers you always get an even number and when you multiply by 2 you always get an even number. In Literacy we have been learning about the past and present tense. We played a game of musical chairs where we had to write down the past tense verb once we sat down. It was lots of fun! For outdoor learning we explored signs of spring. We researched which flowers were spring time flowers and found out about Daffodils, Crocuses and Snow Drops. For Science we conducted an investigation into properties of materials. We explored which materials were best for building boats, bridges and making bouncy balls. We loved exploring and being creative. We also decided the winning properties for these things. there was a lot of team work, creativity and questioning skills.
