Hello

We hope you have had a lovely week.

This week in P1 we have been learning about The Kelpie monument in Falkirk. We learnt they were designed by Andy Scott and are 100 feet tall.  From the information we read and listened to we made a fact file on them. We then listened to some Scottish folk stories about kelpies.

In Math we have been making o’clock on an analogue clock. We have been drawing the minute and hour hands to show different o’clock times.

We wrote an acrorstic poem on Nessie this week. We had to start each line with the sounds that spell out Nessie. We used some interesting describing and doing words such as slimy, slithering and shy.

In Outdoor Learning and Science we have been on a texture and properties hunt. We looked for things outside that were rough, spikey, fluffy and smooth.

We hope you have a lovely weekend.

Hello

We hope you are all well!

We have had a great first week back to school.

We have started our new topic ‘Scottish Landmarks’. We have decided we would like to know more about castles, famous stadiums and lochs.

This week we have been learning out about Loch Ness. We have been finding out information from different texts to learn new things. We read and listened carefully then wrote a fact about the Loch. We also used evidence to shape our opinions on the Loch Ness Monster. Some of us said that we believed he existed from the images and videos, while some of us argued that we thought the evidence was fake.

In maths we have been learning to read o’clock times on an analogue clock. We were all very confident with this.

We revisited the diagraphs ‘th’ and ‘ai’ that we learned before the holidays. We had lots of fun blending out words with these sounds and writing our own sentences.

It was Be Bright Be Seen day today. We designed an outfit that can be seen easily in the dark.
We labelled our outfit to show what materials it is made from and made sure our outfit stands out from the crowd.

We hope you have a lovely weekend!

Hello

This week in P1 our book of the week was ‘The Snowman’ by Raymond Briggs and Jim Erskine. We then made our own salt dough snowmen and wrote instructions on ‘How to Build a Snowman’. We used bossy words and listed the materials we needed.

We have been learning the ‘th’ and ‘ai’ sound this week. We made paper chains and put some ‘th’ words in a craft bath.

It was Festive Friday today, we had so much fun making snow globe snowmen cards. We used our hands to print and drew funny faces on the snowmen.

Today we performed our Nativity to the whole school. We were Confident Individuals and had clear voices and remembered all our lines. We cannot wait for you to see it on Monday!

Have a great weekend!

Hello

We hope you have had a lovely week!

This week in P1 we have been learning what instructions are and how to write them. We made jam sandwiches, sequenced how to make them and then wrote our instructions. We included a picture, title and a list of ingredients that you will need.

We have been adding to 10 and 20 using a number line and counting on. We have also been finding the missing number in an addition sentence using a number line.

For Outdoor Learning, we have been doing some problem solving with our Buddies. We used natural objects to play Tic Tac Toe and then a memory game.

We read ‘The Mitten’ by Jan Brett. Then for our Festive Freeze, we created some paper tissue mittens.  We included bright festive colours and created a snowflake background.

We hope you have a lovely weekend!

Hello

We hope you have had a lovely week!

This week in P1 we have been learning about the forces push and pull. We explored and sorted toys into groups according to whether they need to be pushed or pulled.

In maths we have been estimating, then measuring classroom objects using cubes.

In literacy we read the book, ‘The Cat in the Hat’ by Dr Seuss. We then created our own piece of writing about whether we would let him in to our house or not. Some of us did not want the mess but some wanted to be silly with him.

It was Book Week Scotland and we were lucky enough to be invited to a virtual workshop with author Marcella Ferreira. She read us her story Bear vs Dragon and we loved it! We then turned into illustrators and drew our own bears.

We hope you have a lovely weekend!

Hello

We hope you are well!

This week in P1, we have been learning to add by using a number line. We created our own steps to be successful including circling our start number and using the second number to count our frog jumps.

We have been learning about toys from the past including a Jack in the Box. We then used our colouring, cutting, folding and sticking skills to make our own Jack in the Box.

We used our thinking and co-operation skills in loose parts to make our own spooky creatures for Halloween.

For Outdoor Learning we worked with our Buddies to make a witch’s potion. We went on a scavenger hunt for the ingredients, counted them out and even found our own mystery ingredient. We used our imagination to decided what magic our potion could do.

In writing, we created a spooky story about a haunted house. We used describing words to make a scary setting.

We hope you have a lovely weekend!

Hello

This week in P1 we have been reading the book ‘Room on the Broom’ by Julia Donaldson. This has inspired us to write about who we would take on our broom and where would we go?

We also had fun finding and generating the rhyming words in the story as well as using mixed media to make our own witches.

In numeracy we have began adding by using objects. We have also been looking at measurement vocabulary such as long, short, thick, thin, light and heavy.

In P.E. we have been trying to improve our fitness by taking part in a circuits class. We had fun counting how many jumping jacks and push ups we could do.

We hope you have a great weekend!

Hello

We hope you have had a lovely week!

This week in P1 we have been learning the r, m and d sound. We have been thinking of words that begin with the sound and blending these words with the sounds we know. We made some cool donuts, messy monsters and robots.

We have also been busy rhyming words in the ‘at’ family. We could rhyme and write/draw cat, bat, rat and mat.

In numbers we have been counting to 20 forward and back and counting in 2’s. We have also been learning about probability.

In Outdoor Learning we were identifying leaves and tree types, then done some bark and leaf rubbing with crayons.

We hope you have a great weekend!
