Hello

We hope you are all well!

This week in p1 we have been writing a creative description about a monster. We used words to describe what he looked like and shared what he likes to do and eat. They were all really funny!

In numeracy we have been learning all about number bonds of 10. We have played lots of games to help us make all the different ways to make ten.

It was Scottish Book Week and we were lucky enough to have a virtual reading from the author Robert Tregoning. He read us his book ‘The Dress in the Window’, we loved it! We even learned a new funky dance to go with the story.

In Outdoor Learning we went on a sensory walk with our buddies. We thought about what we can see, hear and feel. We then made a map of the school and marked where we found these senses outdoors.

We hope you have a lovely weekend!

Hello

We hope you are well!

This week in P1 we read An Awesome Book of Thanks by Dallas Clayton. We Discussed ideas from the book, and what things the pupils are grateful for in their own lives. We shared that we were grateful for our family, friends, people who help us and the sun and stars.

We have been continuing to look at money. This week we identified 1p and 2p coins and began to total these coins.

In our writing we wrote a story about a cat in a hat. The pupils created a story about how the cat got the hat and what made the hat so special. We made sure to start with a capital, use finger spaces, sound out our words and end with a full stop.

For our topic we looked at the different forces, push and pull. We then looked at different toys and identified what force we would use for them.

We then played games from the past such as jacks, marbles and sticks. We listened to the instructions carefully and took turns to play.

We hope you have a lovely weekend.

Hello

We hope you are all well!

This week in p1 we have been looking at symmetry. Using loose parts, we created symmetrical pictures with one line of symmetry.

In the lead up to Bonfire Night, we created beautiful bonfire art using multi media and glitter to make sparkling fireworks. We have also been discussing how to keep ourselves safe on Bonfire Night and made super posters to share a safety tip.

We have been continuing to blend three letter words using the sounds we know and putting these words into sentences with our sight words.

We read a funny story about toys that came to life. We took inspiration from this and created our own story about a toy that came to life while we slept and described the mischief they got up to.

We hope you have a lovely weekend!

Hello

In numeracy we have been introduced to the addition and equals symbol. We have been beginning to add groups of objects together.

We were introduced to our new topic this week, which is toys. As a class we looked at toys that might have been from the past and what toys are from today. We then designed our own toys and looked at the features of them.

We also looked at the work of Henry Matisee and were inspired to make our own paper collages. They turned out super, we used different shapes and bright colours.

We hope you have a lovely weekend!

Hello

We hope you are all well!

This week in P1 we have been learning about Growth Mindset. We read ‘The Dot’ by Peter Reynolds. After reading the book, we thought about what we think the author wanted us to learn or remember from the text. Some of the ideas were ‘not to give up’ and ‘keep practicing’. We then used our imagination to turn a black dot into what ever we wanted. Some of our dots turned into flowers, aliens and snowmen.

We were also introduced to our first four sounds this week – s,a,t,i. We enjoyed some fun activities around these sounds such as making silver snake, apple picking and printing, making terrific tigers and igloos.

We continued to explore numbers to 20, counting, ordering and working on formation. We ended the week on number 12 as our number of the day. We can’t wait to explore the teen numbers next week!

We had fun with our p7 buddies and loose parts. We worked well together in teams to complete a number of challenges using the loose parts.

It been another fantastic week.

We hope you have a lovely weekend!

We read ‘The Colour Monster’ and  ‘The Colour Monster Goes to School’ and have been exploring  colours and how we can match these to different emotions. We have also been looking at strategies that we can use to make us feel calm and happy in class and at home.

We had so much fun with our buddies finding natural resources outdoors and making our own pictures. All of the pictures were very creative!

Hello

We have had a super first week in P1!

We have loved exploring our new classroom, meeting new classmates and teachers.

We have been reading ‘What the Ladybird Heard’ and have carried out some fun tasks around the story. We had fun making maps of the farm, thinking about what animals ‘Hefty Hugh’ and ‘Lanky Len’ would meet and retelling the story.

We have been looking at numbers of the day (0,1 and 2), working on our counting to 10 and practicing formation.

As a class we made a Class Charter and thought about some of the rules and promises we would like to make for P1. Some of them included being kind, good listening and being responsible.

We can’t wait to do it all again next week!

Have a fantastic weekend, P1.
