Hello

We hope you are well!

This week in P1 we have been learning all about odd and even numbers.  We had fun matching socks and making pairs to help us understand what numbers are odd and what makes something even.

In Literacy we read ‘Saving Easter’ and wrote a story about what we do if we were the Easter Bunny. Some of us would make a scavenger hunt and a map, while some of us said we would eat all the chocolate ourselves!

In Outdoor Learning we carried out a Spring Time hunt and then used the Ipads to make a collage of the things we found. We then used natural materials to spell out SPRING.

For art we used mixed materials and printing to make Chick Easter Cards. We used spring colours for tulips and made a chick using our hand prints. We hope you like them as much as we do.

We performed ‘A Tiny Seed Was Sleeping’ in the Easter School Service. We were really proud of ourselves, as we were Confident Individuals who sang with a loud clear voice. We hope you enjoyed it!

We hope you have a great April Holidays!

Hello

We hope you are well.

This week in P1 we have been learning the ‘sw’ and ‘tw’ blend.

We have been ordering numbers all the way to 100.  We could sequence the numbers from highest to lowest. In maths we have using our counting skills to ask and answer questions about data in a graph.

We have been writing about ‘The Perfect Spring Day’. In our description we had to detail the weather, some of our senses and what we would do on this perfect day. We described some lovely days where we were riding our bike and flying kites in the warm Spring breeze.

We have enjoyed attending committee groups again this week. The P1’s in Eco Committee have discussing Earth Day. We have been Responsible Citizens by discussing ways that we can look after the environment. We also came up with some fun lessons that the rest of the school can do on Earth Day.

Today we had our class trip to The Discovery. We had so much fun learning about the ships journey to Antarctica!

We hope you have a lovely weekend!

Hello

We hope you are well!

This week in P1 we have been giving compliments. In partners, we thought of something positive about our friend. We wrote it down and shared it with them. It was lovely to put a smile on our friends faces and show the school values of kindness and respect.

In literacy, we were listening for information about spring animals from a text we read. We then picked 3 animals and wrote 3 facts that we had learned about them. We took our time to structure our sentences using capital letters, finger spaces and full stops.

In art we have been learning about far and near. Using oil pastels we drew a field of sheep, focusing on drawing smaller sheep that were further away and larger sheep that were closer.

In maths we have been learning about Carroll Diagrams. We organised Spring animals into four different groups; baby, adult, 2 legs and 4 legs.

In music we have began learning our song for the Spring Service. We have been learning to project our voice and sing in tune to the music. We even created our own actions to the song. We can’t wait for you to see!

We hope you have a lovely weekend!

Hello

We hope you are all well!

This week in P1 we have been writing sensory poems about Spring. We have been thinking about all the things we can hear, see, smell, touch and taste in the season. We all had great ideas from hearing baby chicks chirping to feeling lambs soft wool and tasting scrumptious hot cross buns.

In maths we have been learning about pictograms. We asked our friends their favourite fruit, collected the data and presented it in a pictogram by drawing the pictures of fruit to represent a vote. We then challenged ourselves by using our counting, adding and subtracting skills to answer some questions about the data.

We were working on our co-operative learning skills in Loose parts this week, where we were all given 2 pieces and had to come together as a class to build a Famous Scottish Landmark. The class chose The Discovery and together were able to give the ship all the parts that we had discussed in class. The class then played some fun by role playing and pretending to be the crew on the ship.

We hope you have a lovely weekend!

Hello

We hope you are all well!

This week P1 have been discussing what it means to respect ourselves. We identified some of the way we can relax, have fun, get active  and be creative. We tried to do these things every day this week, we meditated, read books, created art, danced and played some fun games.

On Thursday it was World Book Day. We looked fab as we dressed up as characters from our favourites books! We had lots of fun creating our own character for a favourite story book and got creative making sparkly book marks.

We were lucky enough to take part in Fife Libraries World Book Day, where author Gregg Stobbs read his book ‘Cloud Boy’ to us. We asked him some interesting questions and drew a monster to fit into his story.

Spring is coming…. and that inspired us to use paint and oil pastels create a field of tulips. This brightened up our day and classroom!

We hope you have a lovely weekend!

Hello

This week in P1 we have been learning about The RRS Discovery. We learnt the story of the Antarctica Explorers Scott, Wilson and Shakleton. We then compared the differences of exploring Antarctica in 1902 to modern day exploration.

For Health and Wellbeing we have been discussing what it means to be unique and what makes us special. We thought about the things that make us, us and wrote them down. We then used mirrors, pencils and paint to create our own self portraits. The class have also been recognising our own name and discussing why it is important.  We wrote our names in large letters and decorated them with glitter, rainbow colour and textures.

In Maths, we have been reading o’clock and half past times on a digital clock. We then wrote the times.

For our writing, we thought about a time when we were brave. We included what happened, where and who were with. We discussed our emotions at the time and noted this. We have lots of brave children in P1 and should be very proud of ourselves.

We hope you have a lovely weekend!

Hello

We hope you are well!

This week in P1 we have been learning the ‘ue’ sound. We made up some funny stories using ‘ue’ words such as glue, blue and barbecue.

In Maths we have been identifying both half past and o’clock times on analogue clocks. We drew the hands and carefully chose where we placed the minute hands to differentiate the times.

In Science we have been exploring different materials which are absorbent or waterproof. We had fun predicting then experimenting with different materials to see if they were waterproof or not by dipping them in water. We then justified the selection of appropriate materials for different uses such as a sponge, bath mat or plastic.

In PE we had lots of fun in gymnastics this week when working on our jumping and balancing skills. We had to come up with our own sequence of a balance, jump then balance. We enjoyed sharing our sequences with our peers and giving feedback.

We hope you have a great weekend!

Hello

We hope you have had a great week!

This week for our topic we have been learning about Edinburgh Castle. We found out some really interesting facts about the castle including it was built on an old volcano and that it used to be a jail to pirates! We then created our own fact file on the castle.

we have been doing consolidation work on o’clock and half past on an analogue clock. We were identifying different clock times and sorting them in to the correct time (half past or o’clock).

In P.E this week we had fun with gymnastics. We were practising different rolls and balances. We then came up with our sequence where we had to demonstrate a roll and a balance. We challenged ourselves by counting how long we could hold our balance.

In science we have been learning about different materials and sorting objects in our class room according to their properties such as hard rough, smooth, waterproof and flexibility.

We hope you have a lovely weekend!

Hello

We hope you are well!

This week in P1 we have been learning the ‘ng’ and ‘oo’ sound. We have had fun creating our own ‘books’, blending words with these sounds and writing interesting sentences.

In P.E we created our own Scottish Country Dance in pairs. We had to show good listening and talking with our partner, count in 4 and be in time with our partners. It was so much fun and we enjoyed performing to the rest of the class.

For our topic we have been comparing trains from the present and past. We could share some interesting facts about steam trains from the past such as what they were used for, what they looked like, their speed and sound. We then compare this to electric and diesel trains from today. There was some great listening and discussions!

In maths this week we have been learning to identify and tell half past times on an analogue clock. We recognised that the minute hand points to the 6 and the hour hand sat past the hour.

In Outdoor Learning, we took part in the RSPB birdwatch with our Buddies. It was great fun trying to spot the different species and we used tally marks to record how many of the different species we saw.

We hope you have a lovely weekend!

Hello

We hope you have had a lovely week.

This week in P1 we have been learning about The Kelpie monument in Falkirk. We learnt they were designed by Andy Scott and are 100 feet tall.  From the information we read and listened to we made a fact file on them. We then listened to some Scottish folk stories about kelpies.

In Math we have been making o’clock on an analogue clock. We have been drawing the minute and hour hands to show different o’clock times.

We wrote an acrorstic poem on Nessie this week. We had to start each line with the sounds that spell out Nessie. We used some interesting describing and doing words such as slimy, slithering and shy.

In Outdoor Learning and Science we have been on a texture and properties hunt. We looked for things outside that were rough, spikey, fluffy and smooth.

We hope you have a lovely weekend.
