Term 4

Literacy

We will look at different genres of writing, with a focus on play scripts and imaginative writing. This will help us to understand the conventions of a script compared to a short story and explore setting, character, plot and structure.

We will be developing our understanding of figurative language including idioms, personification, similes and metaphors. We aim to be able to identify these and use them in our writing to create meaning and atmosphere.

Mathematics:

In mathematics we will be working on time. We will start by looking at analogue and digital clocks and converting between 12 hour and 24 hour time. Following on from this we will interpret and create timetables, explore times worldwide and complete time word problems and time duration problems.

Following on form this, we will be focusing on money. We will start by solving money problems using the four operations, addition, subtraction, multiplication and subtraction. Extending on from this we will investigate budgeting, looking at affordability and profit and loss. We will then explore discounts on sale items and calculate ‘best buy’ items.

Topic

Using our topic of ‘The Olympic Games’, we will discover the origins of the Olympics and Paralympics alongside the how the modern games are run.

Pupils will undertake independent research to create a detailed presentation on an aspect of The Olympic or Paralympic Games. They will focus on using their own words to make the presentation interesting and informative as well as selecting appropriate diagrams, photographs and technology to support this. Pupils presenting these to their peers will also learn presenting techniques.

HWB

During our residential trip to Dalguise, we will be taking part in various energetic outdoor activities. There will also be opportunities for the children to develop and improve their skills in certain tasks. A lot of teamwork will be required and will therefore have a positive impact on the children’s relationships with themselves and each other. In the middle part of the term, we will be working on the Relationships and Sexual Health aspect of the curriculum to help make the children more informed. You will be notified by email of exactly when this is taking place.

We will also be completing our ‘Marathon in May’ for our Enterprise project. We will be working on our fitness and stamina.

Expressive Arts

Everyone will be spending a lot of time on practising and rehearsing for our P7 Play, “Let Loose”. We will be learning several songs to perform on stage. This will cover our learning in music.  The children will also be acting out their parts. By performing in the play, we will also cover outcomes in drama. We are hoping to include some references to our own experience of a residential trip once we return from Dalguise.
