Science Week at KHS! (Science Dept)
Next week is British Science Week.  To celebrate, the scientists will be running a number of fun activities including…

  • Key ring making
  • Lava lamps
  • Making Gliders
  • Rockets
  • Slime

To take part in these, come to A5 every lunchtime next week Monday-Friday!

Our Girls Can (Miss Hay)
Our Girls Can will only be on for half an hour (3:15-3:45pm) after school today.

S6 Prom Committee (Miss Lipton)
Prom Committee will meet this Friday lunchtime at 1:20pm in D9 to discuss plans. If you would like to be involved, please come along! Also, prom payments can be made via iPayimpact or cash at the office.

Junior House Captain Applications – S3 Only (Miss Lipton)
Applications are now open to all S3 for Junior House Captain positions! This is an exciting opportunity to work closely with the current House Captains before taking over to lead the houses. This will include planning house events, getting involved in forum, planning for and speaking at assemblies, helping out with parents’ evenings, school events etc. Applications to be returned by Monday 13 March. Interviews to take place Thursday 16 & Friday 17 March. Any questions see your house leaders – Adam Smith: Miss Lipton & Mr Sanderson Carlyle: Miss Steedman & Mr Dick Oswald: Miss Wallace & Miss Osborne. Good Luck.

Animal Care & Army Workshop (Mrs Whyte)
For any pupils who have signed up for the animal care or army workshop happening next week. Please check the list outside C13 to see if you have a space on the workshop and the time of the session. There may be some spare spaces so see Mrs Whyte if you would like to be added to the waiting list.

S1 Parents’/Carers’ Evening – In School – Tuesday 21 March – PEBS (Mrs Noone)
The parent/carer on-line booking system is open. Booking closes at 11:55pm on Friday 17 March.

Fife Schools LGBT+ Social – Sunday 19 March 11:00am-2:00pm (Dr Murray)
On Sunday 19 March 11.00am-2.00pm, there will be a Fife Schools LGBT+ social event at “The Hive”, just off the High Street in Kirkcaldy. This is a great opportunity to meet with LGBT+ folk and allies of the community – all school age folk are welcome. To attend you need a permission from – Dr M has them in A4!

Course choice for pupils in S4 going into S5 (S Hamilton)
The deadline for completing your final course choice for next session is Tuesday 14 March. Information has been emailed out to parents/carers. Here is a copy of the QR code, which you should use to enter your choices.

S3-S6 Intended Destinations (Miss Lipton)
Can I remind all S3-S6 to complete the Intended Destinations form – it will take approx. 3 mins to complete – this information will help us with course choices and job matching for the future.

Saltire Hours – S4/5/6 (Miss Lipton)
Can all S4/5/6 ensure your Saltire Hours are up to date and submitted on the team please.

S6 Hoodies (Mrs Rae)
Here is the QR code to select your size and colour for your leavers’ hoodies. Let me know if you are having any issues. Please come and check your name on the list at the PSO base also as it will be what appears in the #23 on the back. I will be sending the order on the 10 March so please ensure all forms and payments are completed by then.

DYW Padlet (Mrs Whyte)
The Padlet has been updated with new opportunities, highlights include –

The opportunity for any interested S2-6 to join a skills workshop run by the British Army.
Apprenticeships – In Engineering, Gardening, Accountancy etc.
Summer School for S5 – Opportunity to attend a residential at some of the UK’s top Universities through Sutton Trust in a range of activities.

Speak to Mrs Whyte if you require any help with applications, finding jobs or want some work experience.

Piano and Upper Strings Lessons (Mrs Simpson)
Lessons are on today in the Music department. You can find your time on Teams or on the department timetable board.

S2-S4 Music Lunch Club (Mrs Duckett)
This now takes place in E10 every day of the week, except Wednesdays.

String Group (Mrs Simpson)
The String Group will take place on Thursday lunchtime in E13.

Calm Colouring Lunch Club (Ms Geddes/Miss Millar)
If you would like a calm space to have lunch and do a bit of colouring, with the option to chat through any questions with our Mental Health Ambassadors, then this is the club for you! Head along to A3 (Science) where Miss Millar and Ms Geddes will have all the resources you need to chill out and recharge for the afternoon ahead. Today from 1:10pm.

S1 & S2 Netball (Mrs Steedman)
Training will be afterschool every Thursday starting this week from 3:30-4:15pm.

Film & Media Study Support (Mr McPherson)
Film and Media study support for S3 is on today after school in Studio 1.

FRIDAY 10 MARCH

Card Club (Mrs Rae)
Come along to the PSO base at lunchtime to play various card games and make new friends. Maybe your friends are off, and you have nowhere to go or you see yourself as a real “card shark” all are very welcome!

Wind Band (Mrs Simpson)
The Wind Band will take place on Friday lunchtime in E13/Dance Studio.

Health Zone Drop In (Mrs Davidson)
Every Friday lunchtime, the school nurse team run a confidential drop in session. They are situated behind the careers room opposite the main office.

S1 Reading Group (Miss Britton)
S1 Reading Group during Friday lunchtimes in room B23. It’s a chance to practice reading out loud.

Have Lunch with A Hero! (Mrs Brown)
“Release the KRAKEN!!” All are welcome to come and see the remake of the Clash of the Titans at Classics Film club, in C11. Bring your lunch and see the hero Perseus battle against Medusa and the Kraken!
