LGBT+ History Month and “Purple Friday” (Equality Group)
February is “LGBT+ History Month” at KHS, when we celebrate the contributions LGBT+ people have made to the world over the years. Keep an eye on the KHS LGBT+ Twitter for the historical facts and interesting people.

Friday 24 February is “Purple Friday”, your opportunity to wear something purple to show your support for equality and diversity at KHS and across the world! This is NOT A “DRESS DOWN DAY” but a purple item of clothing will be allowed! 🏳️‍🌈 🏳️‍⚧️

World Book Day (Miss Cobban)
World Book Day takes place on Thursday 2 March. To celebrate the day, we are hosting a Lit. Quiz in the Assembly Hall on Thursday at lunchtime (start time: 1:15pm). Entries can be individual or in groups (max. of 4 per group). There will be prizes for the winner(s)!

Army Workshop – Calling all S2-S6 pupils! (Mrs Whyte)
An opportunity has arisen for some pupils to join a workshop run by the British Army. This workshop will take place on 17 March and give you the opportunity to work in teams to complete a series of challenges and tasks. S6 Hoodies (Mrs Rae)
Here is the QR code to select your size and colour for your leavers’ hoodies. Let me know if you are having any issues. Please come and check your name on the list at the PSO base also as it will be what appears in the #23 on the back. I will be sending the order on the 10 March so please ensure all forms and payments are completed by then.

Science Research Placements (Miss Irvine/Dr Murray/Miss Tennant)
We have an opportunity for folk in S5 to spend some time during the summer working in REAL science/engineering labs. This would obviously be a great chance for anyone looking to study Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths subjects beyond school. See Miss Irvine/Dr Murray/Miss Tennant if you’re interested! DYW Padlet (Mrs Whyte)
The Padlet has been updated with new opportunities, highlights include –

The opportunity for any interested S2-6 to join a skills workshop run by the British Army.
Apprenticeships – In Engineering, Gardening, Accountancy etc.
Summer School for S5 – Opportunity to attend a residential at some of the UK’s top Universities through Sutton Trust in a range of activities.

Speak to Mrs Whyte if you require any help with applications, finding jobs or want some work experience.

Lessons are on today in the Music department. You can find your time on Teams or on the department timetable board.

S2-S4 Music Lunch Club (Mrs Duckett)
This now takes place in E10 every day of the week, except Wednesdays.

Card Club (Mrs Rae)
Come along to the PSO base at lunchtime to play various card games and make new friends. Maybe your friends are off, and you have nowhere to go or you see yourself as a real “card shark” all are very welcome!

Wind Band (Mrs Simpson)
The Wind Band will take place on Friday lunchtime in E13/Dance Studio.

Health Zone Drop In (Mrs Davidson)
Every Friday lunchtime, the school nurse team run a confidential drop in session. They are situated behind the careers room opposite the main office.

S1 Reading Group (Miss Britton)
S1 Reading Group during Friday lunchtimes in room B23. It’s a chance to practice reading out loud.

Have Lunch with A Hero! (Mrs Brown)
The Rock stars as Hercules in this tale of good vs evil – but it’s not always easy to tell who to trust! All are welcome to come along to C11 with their lunch to see this movie.

MONDAY 27 FEBRUARY

Percussion Ensemble (Mrs Simpson)
The Percussion Ensemble will take place on Monday lunchtime in E11.

Chess Club (Dr Black)
Chess club will be running on Monday lunchtimes in A6, 1:10-1:40pm.  Grand masters in the making, you can learn how to play if you have not played before.

Biology Numeracy Study Support (Mrs Gannon)
Get support with Biology numeracy and problem solving. Monday 3:15-4:15pm in A1/A2.
